I'm going on my first elk hunt in a couple of weeks and have a question about the accepted protocol for sharing meat with the rest of your hunting group. There are 5 of us going and 4 of us have cow tags while the 5th guy missed out on a muley tag. If we kill 1 or 2 elk what's the general rule of thumb for splitting the meat up? What if all four tag out? I was thinking the shooter keeps the tenderloins and backstraps or maybe donates some to the weeks meat pot.
