440, I know you think it is the social issues that sink the Republicans. I do not think it really has a lot of bearing on it at this point.
First the candidate has to have some type of celebrity status. Obama does. You do not have to do anything but capture the general populaces attention.
Working hard and getting somewhere is not selling. Having the government take care of you does sell.
I really do not think it is about abortion, religion, same sex marriage. I think if the republicans conceded all those issues it would not make a difference. Population centers are going to the takers.
All the trends are towards Socialism. Minority voters vote democrat by a huge margin and that group is growing.
Young voters vote democrat. The Public sector votes democrat and that group is growing.
The message to work hard and succeed does not ring with these groups at all.
They do not care where their money comes from, they do not understand the nuts and bolts of economics.
That is why the class warfare campaign worked so well.
That is why the underachievers flocked to the polls. This is not changing. The republicans to get power need to be the democrats of now and the democrats will continue to move further left till socialism and redistribution of wealth will be the talking point.
The average guy in a govenment job or getting public assistance will see the next 4 years as a great time. Why would he or she change that.

Paul I think you're half right, but you have to look at what happened to all the far right congressional candidates who took their abortion campaign too far. they're gone this morning.
So you have a society who wants a handout because they see no other option, they don't want to return to the inquisition either this is the 21st century.
You also have a gap between the rich and poor getting wider, you don't ignore that and elect a rich guy who thinks tax cuts for the rich and union busting are the answer to your poverty. it's common sense.
Obama won, but only because his competition was so weak. I say a moderate republican with no religious social agenda and a plan even poor americans could see improving their chances at the american dream would have kicked Obama's butt.

Same sex marriage, I am against it, but, not worth losing a country over it.
Obama is a great politician. Charismatic, likeable, and that makes him electable.
I thought Clinton would be the best politician of my lifetime, and actually it may be Obama.
When I say best, I only mean charismatic, likeable, and able to draw voters in.
Would have been hard to beat no matter what. It comes down to the swing states.

Piper I'm sorry but you're mistake and the majority of economists support the position. Based on what he's done he would have been fired as a manager of a Taco Bell. If you think about things you'll see just how much the illegal immigration issue came into play. There's 15- 20 million of them here and they're working which means they have ID's and social security numbers so they can easily get voter ID's. They live in larger populated cities and as such helped drive the process. There no question that those here legally need to be valued and courted and we need to get some form of reform legislated. Remember legal votes have exactly the same weight as illegal ones, so we need to legislate free legal voter ID in all states.
The democrats ran a smart campaign demonizing Romney as the antichrist from Wall Street and managed to tarnish his character (which was far from the truth) and blaming Bush. The thing that speaks volumes about the failing of our educational system is that so many voted for a candidate with the longest streak of poor employment, excessive debt, and horrific management failures within his administration, coupled with not being honest with the American people. Our values and our minds are eroding, because we're becoming a me first society.
What this election proved is that you can buy votes and influence opinion even offering things you can't deliver along with mounds of free cheese because frankly they don't care who pays as long as they're collecting. I don't think he's a bad person in fact that's what got him reelected. But as we've all seen in real life on the job, sometimes the guys you like, really get by for just that reason and their performance doesn't come into play. He didn't run on his accomplishments he ran on blame and degrading another man, and quite possibly the one with the better skill set to convince corporate America, the only entity with the means, to ante up to bail out our insolvent government.
Let's see if the popular one can rise up and walk across the aisle and walk into corporate America a much humbler man, and ask them to help him fix America. If he can do that he'll be the big winner and have the legacy he covets if not, the mice will find the cheese is very hard to find and full time jobs even worse. In that case no matter how hard he tries he's going to be the sole beneficiary of the blame card he played so deftly during his first term.

I think enough republican agree with you to inact change within the party. as stratigist Mike Murhpy has been saying for some time the republicans have to find a way to become electable again.
Now the trick is to get the losers who took the party down the path to oblivion to get lost. that may be harder than the actual rebuilding.

Last nights election unfortunate as it is proved me correct. Low life scum reproduce 4 to 1 over middle-class, regardless of race. The working-class that do not live off handouts pay for the parasites offspring from birth to death in most cases. obummermuslim won the election because of several reasons; race, "I'll give you everything for nothing" but most of all the lack of God in our country. Our media and government have done an outstanding job of indoctrinating the people. I am far from being a perfect Christian as I have not been able to conquer anger, hate, violence and a few other nasty human traits. Twenty two years ago my First Cousin and best friend died of brain cancer. He was a fireman and a husband and the best friend one could ask for, he was twenty two. I watched him go through numerous surgeries and recoveries. I also watched him wither away. I think of him every day I live. I would have traded places with him if I could of. He never lost his faith during any of this. He accepted what God had planned for him and never asked "why me". Two years ago my youngest son was discovered to have a large tumor on his spine and vena kava. Prior to surgery we were told the tumor was 99% certain to be cancer. Many people in numerous states and of different Christian religions prayed for him. I never asked why this was happening and completely accepted what God had planned. As I have stated I do not have to like God's plan, just accept it as good and right even when I can't see it. I pray I can always do this. My ten year old son went through eight hours of very risky surgery. He made it through and was sent home several days later. Now we were waiting to find out when he would begin his treatments. Two very long weeks past bye when we got the call. The countless prayers were answered, there would be no treatments, it was not malignant. We were told there are only four cases (on average) in California like this a year, (Three weeks after coming home he was back on the pitchers mound. He was a little upset in that he was not allowed to play his other position of catcher. After baseball it was time for football. I guess what I am saying is that he made a full recovery, no nerve damage or loss of coordination. The kid is very athletic and loves to hunt also.) In my eyes this was God's work, Not because I wanted it that way, not because we deserved it, only because it was God's plan( I believe the power of prayer had a bit to do with God's decision). And yes I am thankful. If my son didn't make it would I have asked why? I honestly cannot say. My faith is in God and I pray for all mankind. You state that you cannot understand how I can hate, accept outcomes and accept obummer as my leader. Well I am human and I am flawed. I still have failed to rid my soul of a lot of bad. Do you think Jesus would get so hung up on a few words about redistribution he would ignore things like programs to feed the poor and health care for those who can't afford it? was Jesus a rich man looking out for the rich ? didn't he say I am my brothers keeper? might he not like food stamps and Obamacare better than tax cuts for the top 2% ? do you see where I'm coming from? the libs are Santa and you hate them for it.
