Never to early to start planning and I didn't get a wink of sleep last night when I found out I drew the expo tag. I haven't seen that area in 15 years. What can I expect bulls to be? And where are some hood places to check out? Im going at this head on since I know this is my once in a lifetime tag... thanks in advance!!!

Excited is an understatement!!! My wife almost called 911 cause I started shaking and had trouble breathing ... no joke!

JUDAS tabby!

You can't even spell it!:D

Saw a bull there last year that would give you both! (heart and hard attacks) If you really want to get excited do an archive search for the bull that was killed last year by someone who had the last name Bess. 400+ monster.

Good for you lv2h.....those late date hunts can certainly be hit or miss when it comes to FS road closures and no snow and....so forth.

You did fine with a 330 bull and no doubt he looks great on the wall.

congrats

The thread is titled "415 Bull Elk off Paunguitch" BigJohnT spelled it wrong also. Take a look!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-22-12 AT 01:04PM (MST)[p]First of all congratulations on the Expo tag. To get a tag and not burn points is a dream come true.

I had this tag last year.I live near the area and scouted a lot during the summer. I also scouted for 10 days solid prior to the hunt and then hunted the entire season. IMHO the general quality of the bulls has gone down in the last few years. I located 1 Bull that was a 350 class bull a couple of days before the hunt. He was killed by another hunter.

I hiked and spotted from hell to breakfast and saw hundreds of Elk but only a handful of bulls that were in the 300 Inch range while scouting.

I passed up 13 Bulls during the hunt none bigger than approximately 280 inches and ended up not filling my tag. Oh and I burned 10 points on the tag too. The scouting and hunt were really fun but I sure wish I had my points back.

I only saw one really nice dead bull and that was the 350 bull. Most of the hunters were killing the first 5 point they laid eyes on.

Any way I would be happy to give you some tips on where I saw elk. Just PM me please.

They will woody if you let em live!

Let em live 2 more years & you've got some 350" Bulls runnin around!

Manage them for BS 4 year old age objectives & enjoy what currently Roams in the Unit!

Best of Luck tabby!

Sttm ... im not happy about the new age structure as most people aren't either. I am however going to make the best of my tag. Plan is to go down a week before the hunt and then hunt the whole 9 days. Im not afraid of shooting a 300" bull as long as its mature and well matched on both sides. However im still going to bust my butt to find the best bull I can. If I eat tagsoup then so be it but I will feel better knowing I gave it my all and let younger bulls live another year ;)

Right on tabby!

Hope you find one of the better Bulls for sure!

We're Rootin for you!
