This lucky hunter drew 16b together with my dad, we will be in the wilderness the third week. Anyone have any good stories or experiences they would like to share???

The worst experience you can have in the Gila will still be a good one and that you can be assured of. Congrats on a great tag!

Lots of bulls and some nice ones at that. I will be there the week before you. Hope we get some moisture. A good number of the water holes seem to be dry.

>drawn that tag TG?

***Nope, but I was in 16 way back in 1970 on a backpack fishing trip when I was in the service at Fort Bliss and 24 right along the wilderness boundary on a ML mulie hunt in 2010, as well as a ML mulie hunt in 2003 up in 15. All three areas were fantastic and the elk were there in all of them.

I was in there last year. If it will rain and if they open all the trails back up the hunting will very good. If those two thing don't happen then the hunting will be ok just not excellent. Last year it was real dry and most of the tanks were dry. Good luck it's sure neat country.

Creeks, springs and seeps. A good number show up on maps, but the good ones aren't and that's why there good, not many know about them.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-10-13 AT 08:12PM (MST)[p]Hi All,

Wondering how first hunt had gone?

I just posted the only report I've gotten on the New Mexico forum under "Gila updates" I think? The just of it: very slow and quiet for the first archery season. There is water everywhere, and not as good elk numbers or bull size from even last year. My bud just got back and his camp went 0 for 3 during the first archery season. He said they had limited chances and nothing very big. Last year during the same hunt they went 2 for 4 with 2 big bulls killed and every one having multiple opportunities. This is the first time in 6 consecutive years that he has drawn this hunt that he did not connect.
The bright side! You have a tag, rain is going to make the second archery season very tough and the cooler nights should have them screaming around the 19th. Or at least I hope so! I also have a tag for the third archery season the 19th - 24th but I drew 16-A. I will be at the snow lake camp ground. I would offer you guys the use of my horses and mule but I have decided not to take them for my hunt. I can barely afford the gas to get there as it is. Keep me posted, my wife also 16-B but for the first rifle hunt.
PM me if you want good luck!
