Does anyone on the forum have knowledge of unit 2033? This is an archery elk hunt from September 1st- September 14th. My friend drew a group elk permit hunt for this area. Looks to be a pretty big unit and seems to be open for only permit holders. Unit is for Chelan County. Does anybody know if this is a good elk area? Looking for a good starting point to start scouting. Any help or knowledge of this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help and good luck to all this year!

It's going to be hot and real dry. Last year they had 30 hunters and 14 people returned their reports and no one killed a elk. The elk are tough to find if you don't scout a lot. I hunted that unit in 2003 for a diffrent hunt and scouted for 20-25 days and never seen a elk. The elk are hunted from Aug 15th tell the end of Febuary so they don't hang around very long. Look for water.

Ditto, I spent almost a month over there chasing deer and never saw an elk track. A guy's got to know what he's doing and where to go if he's going to kill an elk in there (in my humble opinion).

I heard they are trying to transplant more elk in that area so i would definately call GFP good luck

I seriously doubt the WDFW would put more elk in the Peshastin. That is a damage control area, that is the reason for hunting season in there going from August 1st through February 28th.

Bob's right, WDFW is training the elk to stay away from this area by constant permit hunting due to damage to orchards and farm ground. I hunted there last year at the end of Sept with an "any elk" permit and took a 7x7 that gross scored 345". It was such a tough hunt that I didn't even apply for it this year. Tough to find the elk after everyone has pushed them around for 2-3 weeks before you get there. The elk have already started to learn the unit boundaries and know where the safe zones are.

Buckblaster-where is a good place to start looking? Can you provide any forest service roads? Wanted to thank everyone for the info. Although not always what a guy wants to hear at least I can let them know what they are getting into.

Have them try hunting up the Camas Cr Rd. Pendleton and Larson Creeks were producing elk for people last year so they will have to walk or mountain bike up the gated road which heads north from Camas Cr Rd into the upper ends of those canyons. Also try Boundary Butte. There is a blocked road that comes down the east side of the mountain from the top that contains scattered clearcuts and deadends in a timbered canyon. There should be elk in there. Last but probably the best option would be the north face of a hill just south of Camas meadows natural area. Access it from the west unit boundary road at a logged area that extends up the west side of the hill. Go over the top and onto the timbered north slope. These were the only places I found that still held elk when I hunted in late Sept. Good luck!
