Your worst Thanksgiving experience..

I was thinking of thanksgivings past. And remembering John Madden saying that football and Thanksgiving go together. I know it’s not for everybody but it was a tradition growing up in my family. My worst experience was the first and last time I had Thanksgiving at my ex evil sister-in-law’s house. We walk in the door Christmas music is blaring and the TV is off no football. I turned to my then wife we were at her sisters house. And said if I don’t get to watch football and if I have to listen to Christmas music on Thanksgiving, you can find your own ride home. Needless to say I got to watch football and Christmas music was turned off. The rest of the afternoon was very uncomfortable especially when I pulled out a cold brew and I enjoyed it during the game.?

I can't say that I've ever had a bad Thanksgiving experience. It's one of those times where the family puts aside all differences to come together and enjoy the food and merriment. There have been a few disagreements here and there but nothing that boiled over into an uncontrollable fiasco.

The TV is always on but never on football. It's typically cartoons or something for the kids. The adults are busy with alcohol, food and telling lies to each other about how much money they're making at their job or the one big buck/bull that they supposedly killed a few seasons ago but have zero pictures or other people to corroborate the story. lol

Today might be it for me. We were going to host the family dinner today but my wife, son and I have come down with the flu. So we have postponed the dinner to Saturday. We haven't had the energy to get ready for hosting 20 family members this week, so we are doing most of the house cleaning today and instead of eating a nice turkey dinner, we will be eating week old leftovers to try and clear out the fridge for all the leftovers coming this weekend.

That would be pretty juvenile to let what’s on a tv actually affect a holiday with family. Can’t go a day without watching some stupid game and then actually think that aspect would make it then “worst thanksgiving experience” ?

Sad
I was thinking same thing. It’s typically millennials in my experience that make the world around them adjust to their needs and wants ??‍♂️

Christmas music at Thanksgiving...I'd be drinking too.

No football on Thanksgiving is also against the rules. The bills lions game was awesome!

Usually do a morning hunt too, didn't this year. The last nephew with a tag ran an 8k this morning instead, finished 56 out of 776.

I'll hunt with him the last 3 days.

I would take Christmas music over football ten to one....
Yep two bong hits and music over football any day

worst was my sister and brother-in-law drove in from California and brought his mother
un announced, she bitched about the food , coffee ect, then wanted to debate the supeior merits of the Democratic Party after we started cocktail hour

What happened after you slapped the living sh!t out of her?

I told her we have rules of conversation on the ranch , no political or religious speak
and if she didn’t like my brand of coffee she should drive to town and buy herself some food she liked
they chose to go home Misson complPete with out raising a hand or voice
If you had chit coffee, I don't blame her. Life is too short for Folgers...I never understood how they pawn that crap off as coffee.

The worst Thanksgiving had to be our very first Thanksgiving together as husband and wife. We were having my parents and her parents over for dinner at 5pm. I decided the best thing I could do is go duck hunting on Humboldt Bay and stay out of the way. My wife said "Be here at 5pm or you're dead"

I launched the scull boat in a little channel close to where a lot of birds gather. The tide was coming in so I knew I had plenty of water to get back. The hunting was pretty good and I lost track of time. I realized I better get back as the tide was now running out. Still no problem. I found my little channel and headed for shore. About a half hour later I realized I was in the wrong little channel. Too late. I'm stuck out there until the tide comes back in now. Pre cell phone days. I'm screwed. I got home about 8pm. It didn't go over that well, but the leftovers were sure good. ?

My girlfriend at the time had two kids and a schizophrenic black dog that was a stray they dragged home a few weeks earlier.

She had just taken the turkey out of the oven and set it on the counter to rest and cool for a bit.

Me and the kids were tubing on the hill behind the house and my girlfriend went out to get us for dinner.

When we got back to the house that damn dog had pulled the turkey off the counter and damn near ate the whole bird.

I kicked the sumb!tch in the guts he bolted out the door and crawled under the porch.

The kids tried to coax him out but he wouldn’t budge.
Next day I had to crawl under the porch and drag him out, he was deader than a door nail!

They all blamed me for killin’ the dog, and maybe I did but I think he died from eating all them Turkey bones.

She grabbed her kids and went runnin’ off to her moms, hell nuthin’ I could do but go Chukar hunting and skiing for the next week or so.

Here it is 25 years later and them kids still bring it up every Thanksgiving.

And I ain’t kicked a dog since.

Just a woman I guess.
Seems like they're always fishin' for a reason to get mad.
That gal is long gone but her kids and I are still pretty close.

A few years ago I woke up all alone on Thanksgiving morning, whole family was out of town. Figured I'd have a special moment all to myself while visualizing Karen Fairchild and all that would show up in my fantasy was an image of @elkassassin. Ruined everything, but the job got done.
You got the job done....via an image of elkazzzz?
?

But Do You Still have The Same Girlfriend?:D

Maybe that turkey was meant for you and the dog saved your life. :ROFLMAO:

Today was. My Birthday and one of my kids hasn't called and haven't heard from her in months.

Dang eel, yer a pretty smart guy!
I never thought of that, wouldnt suprise me one little bit if that was the case.
Cant wait till next thanksgiving to bring that theory up..
Many thanks eel..

I always overindulge in the good food. A couple years ago I was stuffed to the gills and I felt like I was about to puke so I made for the back door. I guess I passed out as I stepped out the garage door. I came-to as I was sliding across the garage floor. My head slid into an empty 5 gallon bucket but I was thankful not to hit it on the concrete! I hid in the bedroom for the rest of the night with a wastebasket near the bed in case I booted. This year was the first time I stopped at one big plate!

My worst Thanksgiving was in 2007. Left work for a 2 hour break to go have Thanksgiving dinner with my wife and extended family. On the 5 mile drive, I got pulled over for going 39 in a 35... cop gave me a ticket. Then, watched him go to the next corner, turn into his neighborhood and into his own driveway... probably for his own Thanksgiving dinner. I was just his quota. :ROFLMAO:

Can’t recall my worst but one of my best was the year eelgrass told us about his wife not feeling well Thanksgiving Day and he told her not to worry about cleanup the kitchen and washing the dishes until she started feeling a little better………. ?????

That reminds me of when my dad killed our dog. It wasn’t Thanksgiving or anything like that, but it did something to piss him off and he kicked it and later it was dead. He handed it way better than you and didn’t make excuses like it may have died of something else. He was genuinely mortified that he couldn’t control himself over something so minor and all of us kids saw what he did. It sounds like you have no remorse and it’s still kind of a joke to you. No wonder they bring it up all these years later. My dad knew he ******* up and we didn’t want to embarrass him anymore after that. It was actually my sisters dog when she was 7 and she remained close to him until his last breath.
