    Seriously?

I have to agree with Baltz526. I've eaten many whiteys and mule deer and have had some excellent mule deer, with two exceptions liked I described above.

    Seriously?

Almost all of my mule deer over the years have been good, especially early season, and I've only had 2 that were bad. Both were just after mid November, one in ID and one in MT, and were rutting hard and chasing does when I shot them. The one from MT (near White Sulphur) was a young forky but...

Unit 67 Second Season guide recommendation

Thanks to all who weighed in on my question, including those who sent PMs. I've gotten a better understanding of the unit and have decided to hunt it unguided. I'll report back in November, hopefully with a pic.

Unit 67 Second Season guide recommendation

Great suggestions, thanks. I have been really busy but need to get cracking on this. John

How many points for G & H this year?

Interesting upward trend on the bad years. I wonder if that suggests ongoing degradation of habitat, and maybe not just winter range....Also more people, fences, cars, dogs.....

Living in or near Star Valley

I like Star Valley and live close by but in Idaho. Houses and land are significantly more expensive in WY vs east Idaho, but the hunting is significantly better in WY. East Idaho hunting is starting to get crowded. Lot of hunters in WY too but more game.

Unit 67 Second Season guide recommendation

I got lucky and drew a 67 Second season deer tag. I live in Idaho and at 60 there's a good chance I will say farewell to CO after this hunt, and so I'm thinking about breaking the piggy bank and going guided. I've talked to one outfit that operates in the unit, but would love to hear any...

    3rd Season 2020 Length

So is CWD not the stated, official reason for pushing the season dates back? I guess I was thinking it was a stated goal somewhere, but maybe I'm wrong on that. Destroying the older age classes to fix the point problem is cynical man, but my cynical side says there could be some truth to it...

    3rd Season 2020 Length

Yeah, but those later days are when the bucks are most vulnerable, so the shortening may not equal lower harvest, especially on mature bucks.

    Winter in Eastern Idaho

I'm in eastern Idaho near Swan Valley. Temps haven't been too bad and even though we've gotten a lot of snow over the past 3 weeks or so the darn winds have been so high that a lot of slopes have blown off pretty well and the snow isn't too deep there. Seen fewer deer here this winter than...

A couple of VA Muzzy bucks

Pretty bucks. I grew up in Va and have land in Page Co. but never seem to be able to make it back there during hunting season. Just curious roughly what part of VA you hunt? I use to hunt some of the bigger country west of the Shenandoah Valley. I've lived in eastern Idaho for about 15...

    grizzly attack

Those who make the argument that killing bears means they learn nothing about having a fear of people are discounting both the great intelligence of these bears and the ability of their noses to provide them with detailed information about what is happening in their world, which we can't really...

    A little help!

The same map, but originating on the east coast, would work just as well. People back there confuse Iowa and Idaho all the time too. Americans in general are terrible with geography.

    Anyone here have a Rokon?

Just to clarify I mean a whole deer that has been completed broken down and is in bags. Hauling a whole deer on a Rokon would be near to impossible I'd say - I'm sure someone will jump on and say they've done it, but it would be a stunt and wouldn't work on a rough steep trail.

    Anyone here have a Rokon?

I had one for several years but sold it. If you need to access narrow trails that contour steep slopes, or climb single track trails on steep slopes that are rough, bouldery, etc it is the tool for the job, otherwise a 4 wheeler is a lot more practical. I found it very difficult to haul out say...
