I'm not opposed to used but I'm trying to see what the quality is and if it's worth paying the extra to upgrade. I currently have 15x vortex hd.

I'm looking to upgrade from my Vortex. Is going to something in the $1000 range a significant enough upgrade? If so, what's the best pair of glass $1000 or less? I'm looking for 10x. I don't need anything stronger.

How big of a tripod do you normally use? I am going on my first mule deer hunt and need a tripod but I'm not sure what to get. I won't be using it a lot so I'm not looking for something expensive. Weight is a minor concern but not a real big deal. Anyone have some thoughts?

Thanks for the replys. I would agree that all things being equal I would shoot the 06. My problem is that I have a better scope on the 270. Is 150 grains the largest you can get for the 270?
