Antelope Island

Anyone get lucky and draw the Antelope Island shed hunt? I'd think there should be a good chunk of whites there but it probably gets picked over pretty good.

You would think there are a lot of sheds laying around (and there should be) but a few have helped themselves to most of them out there and ruined it for those who abide by the rules. Most shed hunters will leave empty handed this year. I was a draw Hunter at the Island a few years ago and had access to the backcountry for 6 months to scout. There is a shed from my buck laying out there, but I did not draw for the shed hunt. I'd really like to be able to retrieve the shed. I'd pay up for someone's pass (or even use it for the last few hours of the day) buy the shed or trade it for another shed if someone can retrieve it. It's been sitting for a few years now and pretty crusty so it may just be an average shed to most.

Were you allowed to collect sheds while your were scouting/hunting?

I am one of the “lucky” ones that got drawn. We will see how it goes. Not sure what to expect but either way it should be a good time. Hopefully will have something to share in a couple weeks.
Do you have some idea of where you are going? Would be worth a couple bike rides and hikes even if you have some idea where you want to go...

I went out today but with the weather it was hard to stay very long. Hopefully I can get out at least one more time before the 16. I’m open to suggestions if you have any Feel free to message me.

There is a strict policy at Antleope Island that you cannot pick up any artifacts or natural resources of any kind in the backcountry of the Island.
Past Rumors, Keeper of the Island and his few select friends have the brown.

Could we please see some pictures of your Buck

My son and I drew out. There will be antler to find. I did find the email that was sent a little odd.
“It has been three years since holding this event, so ideally, there should be plenty of sheds. If not, please know that it is not DNR staff who are out collecting those sheds. We have cited individuals in the past for illegal collection, and continue to watch for that happening.” 🤷‍♂️

Well....how'd it go?

It was a cool experience but In my opinion it looked like someone had already been through and picked up a bunch. I seen a bunch of people that came down off the mtn with nothing and a few had found a couple. By far the best I seen in person was a guy that found a 30-32 inch deadhead that had some trash. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get a picture. I did see that the mossback guys did ok but that’s no surprise at all.

I did not draw but was at the event. The Mossback team retrieved the left side shed from my buck I took during the 2020 season Through their generosity, I have the shed. Once they knew I was interested in the sheds, they spent a few hours of their shed hunt looking for the match but was not found. Can't say enough about what great people MB team are. If anyone knows of someone who hunted on the West side about a mile from the South end and picked up a decent crusty right side typical, would you please message me? Attached are photos of the shed from my buck that was retrieved.

There’s young guys in Utah making more money off there shed hunting Utube channels and enjoying themselves then most hard working people know
They're no different than OnlyFans girls. Making money off narcissism and public land while creating more regulation for those of us who do it for recreation. That's why I hope other states start banning NR's from shed hunting prior to May 1st. Utah hunters/shed hunters are single handedly ruining it.

I didn't know Newberg lived in Utah? Weird...

Jesus stfu! Hahaha so posting you want to keep NR out of your state till a specific time frame isnt entitlement? Then your going into playing the victim and Utahns are ruining it, but I’ve seen just as much locals in other states trash there lands! Jesus your just as much the narcissist! your no different than them only fans girls and gramers collecting free ride from our public resources!

Ummm, your own state is the one proposing a ban on NR shed hunters there guy.
No one said there aren't A-holes in every state but Utah "influencers" in general have caused other states to start implementing non resident seasons for shed hunting. Utah treats Nevada like it's backyard and comprise the vast majority of pressure on our wintering herds. Eastern NV barely has any people and those are mostly mine workers and ranchers. It takes longer for residents from Vegas and Reno to drive to elk units to shed hunt than the SLC throngs. All other western states look at Utah as a clown show when it comes to hunting. You're infecting other states and we want to protect our resources.
And I'll acknowledge what Bozeman, Ketchum, and Vegas "influencers" are doing to hunting. We long ago crossed the Rubicon of hunting videos "helping" hunting. Not a Newberg fan, but at least he's heavily involved in conservation and makes fun of shed hunters. 95% of guys filming their hunts nowadays are doing it for pure clout and/or sponsorship.

I never hear or see of anyone outside of Utah that is benefiting off of public land, that is limited to folks who reside in Utah. (That makes sense to me).

I guess my sarcasm wasn't fully understood.
To explain more; I don't really want to argue with guys like BGnight that are so focused on Utah being the root of all evil that I would prefer to send a sarcastic reply that reinforces how idiotic his statements are in bunching a group together based upon where they live. Funny how I drive down the road in Utah and see tons of Wyoming and Idaho plates, folks who need Utah to survive from a financial standpoint, it shows how interconnected we need to be to survive but when it comes to their state land - it is all Utah's fault! All states have good and bad hunters we should call them what they are based upon their actions not where they live.

Never claimed other states weren't part of the problem. Utah is the just the pack leader of all the "look at me!" YouTube ear tuckers. Definitely #1 in the influencer/hunter ratio across the west. And it's legit 90% Utah folks hunting our elk sheds here in Nevada. So hopefully we implement a NR season to keep ya'll in your own **** show.

I’ve never ever seen a shed restriction/season work. Guys will still tuck their earlobes into their hats and strap on the go pro and “hike” 365 days a year for YouTube content. Sorry but shed seasons only hurt the weekend warriors that obey the law/rules.

You’re clueless then that’s for sure

Cry harder. 🤡

Utah does have too many influencers no doubt and shed hunting has been so exploited as well as hunting. Way too much info is available and money is being made off of it. Wyoming is the biggest cry baby state though to call them the cowboy state doesn’t fit anymore. It’s the cryboy state as of now.

Last spring there was plenty of Wyoming plates at the Hennefer echo opener

i don’t agree with what Utah is doing to non residents I do agree with you on the you tube **** show and the way it’s exploited shed hunting and hunting and wish they’re was someway to slow it down. But to me making laws to control everything little thing is slowly dwindling everyone’s freedoms! I’ve shed hunted for 30 years and was always a way to spend quality time with my dad and brothers! I’ve seen where it was and is now I feel the same pain but it is what it is I’m not gonna b$&; I’ve seen what everyone doing that has gotten us, I would much rather have the freedom than some dumb ass law. We are in a world of tech and video games. We need things like this to get our kids out and laws on things that don’t make a bit sense cuz someone took some damn horn from a state you reside in is bs! 90% that come to your state also pay for that animal not just the residents that live there! I’ll be in your state come may 1 picking up what is left over from the 90% of the locals that already been pounding it out cross country riding! Your own state is ruining it for yourselves!

This is quite the outburst about Utah shed hunters going out of state on a thread about a shed hunt on Antelope Island.

I’m sorry someone else took “your” elk sheds in Nevada. I hope you get all the antlers you feel entitled to in the future!
Well, according to people who attended the Elko CAB meeting recently, there's a rumor that NR shed hunting regulations are coming down the pipe (obviously a reaction solely to Utah pressure). Pretty sure it's Utahrds that will be the one's doing the crying. And believe me, us NV residents will help policing this law if it happens. You reap what you sow.

If it means more freedoms from current laws for people that actually live there and only restricts those from out of state who take our resources for personal profit then I'm all for it.

You’re high if you think Nevadans don’t take for personal profit. Most are doing it for a personal income, and most that are are your guys cross country riding. I’ve seen it numerous times and every time there is a Nevada plate attached to there vehicle. Hell I tried running 3 down last year. Not to mention every Nevadan on the south west desert waiting for there state to open so it goes both ways can’t be one sided. But Nothings gonna change hell the whine asses will figure something else out to ***** about to make more laws!

I’ve never picked up a shed in my life and I couldn’t care less what each state’s regs regarding residents vs nonresidents are.

My statement about crying in other states on a thread about an Antelope Island shed hunt remains. Maybe even more so than the first time I said it!

Of course they do. But Utah doesn't have a season so it's legal. Utards are coming over here and poaching every year. Every state has A-holes that take their quads off trails. That'll never change.

Anyway, Utah is the sole cause of all and any shed regulations in the west. We're protecting ourselves from you. Hopefully AZ and NM follow suit. We have state borders and laws for a reason. It's a good thing.

Sounds like it's gonna be April 1st for residents and May 1st for NR next year. And you better believe we'll be policing this ourselves.

lol good luck with that! Hahaha your protecting yourself from me? Mf you don’t even know me. Maybe if you were more open minded you would find most of us are no different than you! Honesty actually want to obey the laws. But when things get this pathetic it makes the honest want to become the the so called criminal

"You" referred to Utahns in general. Lighten up Francis.
And doesn't UT have enough sheds that you don't need Nevada? Every state's sheds should be for residents only the entire spring. It's win win for everybody. Residents actually get MORE rights while protecting themselves from "professional" horn hunters and poachers. There will always be those that hunt early, but this will drastically reduce it and make it better for everybody.

You going to start shooting people bgnight?
U just mad cuz it's harder to poach our sheds. It's funny out of staters think they're entitled to a natural resource in another state that is sold for profit. With that logic, I should just be able to come into your state and cut down your trees for lumber, mine your gold, or shoot your deer with no regulations.

Did BGnight just say Utah shed hunters are better at it than Nevada shed hunters?
Than poaching other state's sheds? For sure. Have fun paying for and picking up our scraps in May next year. Your state had the audacity to suggest non residents should have a season for your state so we got the jump on you and gave you a dose of your own medicine.

Hahaha wait you’re getting a little out there and getting a little extreme with this analogy! Nobody is taking your animal, they shed yearly. Weird if your saying your seeing Utah guys “poaching” sheds what the hell are you doing out there to see this happen I garrentee you it isn’t driving in your truck your right there walking or riding and noticing some traffic. Your gonna find regardless to having an April 1st season for residents your still gonna find boot tracks or atv tracks from people come march 1st and Once again you will point the blame to Utah guys when it’s really your own locals doing it. I’ve shed hunted your state long enough I know what’s going on. This law off the start was never to protect the animal it was for selfish, jealous reasons someone was picking up your so called horns you feel you own and entitled to call it what you want.

Except I don’t shed hunt. And Utah hasn’t put a shed season in place for nonresidents.

But it’s finally becoming clear what you’re crying about. You like coming to Utah to “poach our sheds” and you’re worried they will put regulations on that.

So now I’m 100% in favor of doing so just so I can watch grown men cry about it on the internet.

Well BJ knight I will give it 5 years and you will all be crying you have no animals and want to come here cuz your horse problem destroyed every resource they’re is for the deer and elk. Hell I’m not even gonna give a damn to come there either so you won’t be worried about that anymore. Believe me it’s coming and it may already be too far gone to get a handle on it. You should be more worried about that if you’re so damn concerned about your resources. In the big picture we all take part in that resource or animal don’t care what state it is in one way or another. Many of us put in out of state spend a lot of money in app fees, tags, and game licenses every year not to mention gas stations, and other businesses and that money is huge in a state like Nevada where they already struggle with paying enforcement and resource enhancement issues. I would actually be all in on an April 1 date for all nr or r and a tag fee on top of the 200 a year I donate every year to not draw a tag for your state. If that money went actually into your animal and resource and aided in your fight against the horses!

It's possible to be concerned with sheds and horses at the same time.
And horses are out of NDOW's jurisdiction. We're doing all we can with state congress for horses. Maybe we'll round them up and let them out on the border of Utah. You guys could use some wild mustangs.

And Utah shed hunters don't contribute to local economy. They camp and buy their groceries at home.

Spot on horses are almost as big of problem as people from Utah.

Well your miss management on them already has started destroying Utah also! You must not get out much

What exactly are you going to do? Citizens arrest? Get physical? Explain your methods of policing? You going to hide up on the hill and phone it in? Is a piece of bone worth a beat down or worse?

Call a game warden and give them a license plate? Didn't realize the concept was that hard to grasp. About as minimal effort and non confrontational as there is. If some dudes from Utah are camped out in a random spot where elk frequent there's a 99% probability we know what they're doing.
And I have a sidearm so not too worried about "beat downs".

What will a license plate do? So they can check and see if they are behind in their child support?
"Snitches get stitches" ?

It's just a piece of bone? Get over it.

It’s amazing between the commercialization of wildlife and the whiners that a NR can not go camping and hiking and pick up a nice shed if the come access one. I really feel for my children and future grand children. I hope they can still enjoy the outdoors.
