    Units 111,112 early cow strategy

I wouldn't overthink it. Find glassing spots and observe likely feeding areas at prime times. If you can't find cows in one spot, move on to the next.

Those CO lake trout have a bunch of critters to eat?

I'd say so. https://freerangeamerican.us/world-record-lake-trout-enloe/ I always wanted to head to the northern reaches of Canada and fish for those big lakers in Athabasca, Great Bear, or Great Slave lakes. Always seems to me a lot of the big lakers down in the lower 48 have smaller heads...

    Unit 16 Antelope

Not sure if I'm reading that right, but just because a hunt has tough draw odds doesn't mean it gives a better chance at a B&C animal. Now if it's the only tag you ever apply for that's in a county that's historically produced that caliber of animal, then yeah. I don't believe a person should...

If given the opportunity, #1 animal I've always wanted to hunt would be a bengal tiger somewhere.

Lost Bow and Arrow on I-40

That's hilarious. Always ticks me off the amount of people that put stuff in the bed of their truck thinking it'll never blow out driving down the road. Of course it always blows out while I'm behind the dummies.

    Advice on optics

If you can't swing both and don't do much western glassing/hunting, you could always look into renting a spotter for the hunt. After the hunt, you might be able to decide if you spent more time glassing with the binos, or if the spotter was a necessity for you.

    Frying Pan River

Nice fish, thanks. Is it mostly sight-fishing the fish or probing deeper holes? I imagine a bit of both with the lower flows. I'm relatively new to the whole fly fishing thing (just started this fall), but living in NM I've been going to the san juan and using stuff down to size 26. Just...

    Frying Pan River

Anyone on here fish it on a regular basis? Was pondering a winter trip and wondering if a person can get into fish all day, how the pressure is, and if that frying pan road gets plowed regularly in winter? Specifically considering the upper portion below the dam. Read a couple reports saying...

+1 on the reserving spots. Just look at post #3, they're reserving spots in roadless areas too. Hell, I came across a camper that never moved from turkey season/summer scouting through archery season.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-04-18 AT 12:07PM (MST)[p]I was up in the zunis the past weekend and came across a locked forest service gate across a road. Haven't seen too many of those in nm. Being the nice guy, i disregarded the drive around created up on the shoulder and parked the quad at the gate...

    Unit 52 - Toltec Mesa - Forest Road 74

I took fr 87 up from the south, pass the cruces basin overlook, all the way up to a sign that said the CO border was 2 miles away, on a weekend back in Sept. That was in an atv. I did meet a couple lifted jeeps coming down the road from up north, but I'm not sure if they came in from CO. Is...

    Rifle vs. Archery Elk?

bigpiney, thanks, that was kind of what I was looking for. I figured some of the bigger bulls would be a bit more visible during the archery. As far as the muzzy hunts, I had looked at them but I figure I can pick up a tag just to chase bulls in CO with few points or usually on the re-issue...

    Rifle vs. Archery Elk?

Wondering if I could get any input from people that have hunted or spent time in elk units 111-115, 221-223, or 231. I've gotten into the double digits on pts as a NR and wanted to get a few opinions on which season people think usually produces the biggest bulls. I realize there's always...

    Hybrid Draw

LAST EDITED ON Mar-24-17 AT 01:16PM (MST)[p]COLO, That was the initial thought but like DW said, there was only that small anomaly for those units. I'm not really too concerned as I was just looking at it as sort of another raffle tag opportunity anyway (small risk, big reward).

Colorado Mule Deer point creep advice

Any interest in the muzzy deer hunts or strictly rifle seasons? If you can do some scouting before the season and stay throughout, you might consider one of the high country units. I'm kind of in the same boat with points, yet every year I get another one thinking maybe they'll change the system.
  35. B

    Hybrid Draw

I inquired with the guys at gohunt and they were of the same mindset (that all the caps are met as well). Here was the reply: "You bring up a good point, one that we have discussed internally. The odds from the 5 to 21 point level reflect the odds of drawing a permit in the hybrid draw...

    Hybrid Draw

Does anyone know if it's possible for a NR to draw one of these tags or if any NRs have in the past? Or is the NR quota always reached through the regular draw? I don't plan on hunting in CO this year but was wondering if I actually have a chance in the hybrid draw (regardless of the miniscule...

    Tree stands on water holes

You talking about Jay Scott's podcast talking to the guy on the boulder unit? I thought the same thing relating to having them out year round. If you find one of the stands at least you know you're in a good spot! I'd still hang one cuz he's got 13 other stands to hunt, no worries. I hung...

First Time Alone for the hunt

I wouldn't give up, just know your limits. Elk are big animals, don't get overwhelmed once it's down (especially when you're solo). Maybe hunt within 1-2 miles of the trailheads. Look up the gutless video on elk101 .com. Buy some quality game bags (not the cheesecloth type), get it...
