Just heard our brilliant Governor is going to postpone the draw release until this NR crossings of our border is resolved; from what being proposed all NR tag quotas will be issued to NM veterans and youths.

I been pretty consistent drawing Colorado deer tags every other year with their PP system, just saying it can work for NM too.

Colorado PP system increase residents odds of drawing for sure and can work wonders for NM residents draw chances. You never hear Colorado residents complain about not drawing tags to hunt their state.

Wish NM would go to a PP system like Colorado. I’m a NM resident and haven’t drawn a Bull elk tag in 19 years; haven’t drawn any tags in 4 years straight.

I was down there last year and elk numbers were way down.The town people said it was because of the wolfs and we verified wolfs track all over sand flats and slaughter mesa.

The Caldera staff is very helpful. They will assign you to a particular area so buy a map from them and ask all the staff about the particular unit your going to hunt. I would go get familiar with the unit that first afternoon till dark and mark with a GPS all the spots you see the elk, that way...

Try the foothills, of brokeoff moutain. you make a left at the corrals just past US outfitters camp. Don't hunt the basin unless you have horses, thats where the outfitters take most of their clients by horseback. Also try juanita mt. Good Luck!

Everybody has to understand NM does not have the deer Numbers to accommadate the hunting pressure thats put on them. The only way the deer are going to survive and grow is to close deer hunting in the state for at least four years and them make it a very limited draw like they do for the Rams...

I scouted for 2 days a week ago and didn't locate any big concentration of deer. Are the deer still near all the agriculture field near hagerman or artesia. The fields still haven't been cut. Thats the only reason I can figure; any thoughts?

Where are all the Elk pictures from the muzzle loader hunts. The unit should have been productive especialy from the fire pushing Elk from Arizona this summer.
