The smoke this morning is thick. Their advising people not to be outside more than necessary because of air quality. You can not see the Wellsville mountains from mid valley. With that said the temperature is Upper 40’s in the valley which is positive. Temperatures are forecast for a downward...

    Is it The Gun?

Funny how the gun becomes the scapegoat. Why isn’t alcohol the scapegoat for all the DUI deaths each day in this country. Should we require background checks to buy booze. What about a national data base for DUI offenders easily logged into by a cashier using Dl#’s. Banning the weapon of choice...

    Help me, I drew…

I have a sense of humor and used it in my post. In fact it was very humorous to me. I knew the holier than thou statement would get to someone. Was just wondering who it might flush out. See that is the problem with not knowing the poster on these forums we don’t know intent of the message and...

    Help me, I drew…

I’m imagine some of you guys believe you potty trained yourself. . Nothing wrong with a guy asking for help when they need it. Nothing says you have to offer anything. But in case you forgot your mother taught you that if you can’t say something nice don’t say anything at all. Now I probably...

Cache North Elk Archery 1 BP!

There is a couple pieces of Private land above Richmond that hold elk. I don’t know of anybody that has ever been given permission to access it and hunt. If you want to try PM me and I can give you names of the landowners if you want to try.

Cache North Elk Archery 1 BP!

Very limited vehicle access. Roads in most of the main drainages but after that you are on foot. Last year had a strong rut and helped the harvest but traditionally it is very low success. I suggest get in as good as shape as possible. Pretty much all public land.

They used to have large billboards outside each division office where they would post hard copies the day of the drawing. Otherwise you waited for the tag in the mail. I can remember making sure I had business in Ogden those days so I could stop and check the print outs. IMO that was good...

    Conclusions from the "Opportunity" thread.

Should or could or percentage of tags filled is all subjective to your opinions. The management plan is in place to regulate those items and yearly harvest should dictate the following years tag allotment, along with herd assessment post season. If you believe these factors are skewed or mis...

    Conclusions from the "Opportunity" thread.

I believe one of the Parameters that lacked definition is location. For the most part I believe the respondents assumed we were talking of public land units. With public land the assumption would be public wildlife. If TRI is talking of either private land or private game or a mix there of...

At What Point Is A Tag No Longer An Opportunity?

    1. I never base my expectations on the published success rates. I base my expectation on my preparedness. If I put in for the tag it is because I had a desire to hunt the unit come what may. That is opportunity. 2-6: my answer is yes with exception of number 5 which is a no. I have always...

    What Is Long Range?

Having not read the entire post I apologize if this is redundant. I submit long range is anything that exceeds point blank range. Understanding that can mean different distance for the size of the vitals. However once you start compensating for bullet drop, hold over or dialing IMO you have...

    Point system sure is great?

I am not at the top of the point pool for any specie. I do have enough points that I can shop units and be placed in the 50 percent tags. It is the game I’ve played to draw all my tags. If you wish to quantify my points as preference pool points so be it but you are wrong. My ten dollar payment...

    Point system sure is great?

My apologies since the post is in the Utah forum I figured we were talking of the Utah system. I am a glass half full person and my experience has been the point system does improve odds. I have drawn 2 LE elk tags, 1,LE Antelope tag, 1 Bear tag since the implementation of the point system. I...

    Point system sure is great?

I’m betting most of you didn’t do well in math or you don’t understand the point system. The only applicant whose chances are not improved in the point system, is the first time applicant. Without a point system everyone becomes a first time applicant every year! Having the poorest odds you...

What are the real reasons we hunt?

From the beginning of time you were a hunter or gatherer. I’m a hunter. Can’t tell you why anymore than I can tell you why I’m left handed, right eyed or hate the taste of cottage cheese. I was hunting long before I understood what hunting was. Grasshoppers, songbirds, frogs, vermin. Now I...

    Hip replacement....

Type of procedure is a big key. If it is the anterior approach he should do just fine. Posterior or Lateral it can be a different story. The hip replacement itself is not a problem, the muscles that get cut during the procedure determine recovery and rehab. I had a total hip replacement last...

    Wyoming Hunt Consulting/Scouting Package

I would caution Founder and any interested client to carefully review the USFS special use permit rules and insure they are in compliance with them .
