My Son and I drew 3rd season deer tag. Looking for a little help. Of the 3 units which is the one to concentrate on? What is a good map to purchase and where can I get it? I do have OnX for my GPS, but like to study paper map. Also would like to know where to focus our attention. What can we...

    6 points and no clue

I am not opposed to hunting 3rd season. I just need to figure out over the next few months a unit that we can see a good deer population with a potential for a 160+ buck. My son is not one to travel for hunting trips so I want to make sure he has a great experience.

Not sure 6 points could pull a pair of 4th season tags. May have to do a few years of point building.

    6 points and no clue

We do rifle, and although I will be 68 next hunting season I'm in good shape. Do a lot of hiking and horse camp hunting. I have had the above timberline tag Northeast of DelNort back in 2001, I believe it was unit 81. Camp was at 12000 and hunted up to almost 13000. I also had a tag in unit 53...

    6 points and no clue

My son and I have 6 points for deer. When we get together for Christmas our conversation will turn to where can we hunt that we will see deer and possibly harvest a 160 type buck. We would love to have any of you be a part of our talk. What do you have to say? We are DYI hunters but do...

    Unit 61 dilemma

I want to thank you all for the willingness to share some information. I am leaning first rifle, I have only hunted one other time with a muzzleloader so I don't feel real confident and then there is the problem of legal bullets. I always set my sights high going into the hunt in this case I'm...

    Unit 61 dilemma

I can't decide if I want to put in for muzzleloader or 1st rifle. I have enough points to draw unit 61, but don't know much about the unit. Looking for some advice on which direction to go. Can a guy find a bull with little to no scouting? I would love to scout but can't make the trip prior to...

    Lead bullets

I've been hearing that there have some talk of outlawing lead bullets, to save birds. Does that mean muzzle loaders will go to copper jacketed sabots?

    Colorado Preference Point Fees $40

My take as to where the problem is points the game department. They institute a program, (Preference point system) and when they get several thousand people to buy in and start building points they figure a way to gouge the hunter, (as in this case $40.00) to stick with it. To the guy who say's...

    Colorado Preference Point Fees $40

I'm a little annoyed. I put in for years in Arizona what did they do? Make you buy a license with no refund for it. Then I put in for years in Utah, what did they do? make you buy a license. Now Colorado is finding a way to dig in my pocket. At least this should help with the point creep. Who's...

    In No Man's Land

I am a non-res, with high expectations, but it's like going on a blind date you expect a 10 and when it's all said and done you get a 5. I would like to top my biggest which is a 340 bull. I have been on guided hunts but I prefer do-it-yourself hunts. I don't know much about unit one other than...

    In No Man's Land

When I was in my early 40's I thought "If I put in for unit 2 or 201 Elk I should draw when I retire". Well I am retiring next Summer and I feel like I'm in no man's land. 21 points and no closer to drawing. My question is, What sort of hunt can a guy get with 21 points? I don't mind hunting in...

    Retirement hunt in unit 61

I'm fixing to retire next year and have zeroed in on unit 61 for an elk hunt. I know it's early but I'm bored and I am asking for some directions so I can start making plans. I know zip about unit 61 except there are no OTC tags. Where should I start my study? North, South, East or West ends...

    Draw odds

I've been on the "Draw Odds" several times and I still can't figure out how to read it. The old system was simple. I don't understand how the points figure into the odds. Can you help?

    Units 2 and 201

I also have 20 points with plans to do a retirement hunt in two years. The way I figure only 18 hunters will be out of my way by then. The only thing we can hope for is that they open options for non-res in the ranching for wildlife hunts. I hope you get lucky and draw your tag.
