How old is this elk shed

Good idea, there is a university nearby. Problem is it's still out in the woods! Still there, I recently checked to see. Some day I'll bring it home.

    Here's my worthless opinion

I just spent an hour surfing the forums here on MM. First of all there seems to be lots of negative attacking going on. Esp. regarding shed hunting season dates. We're all like minded people here and I bet if we met in person under different circumstances we would be quick friends. For some...

    Utah opener on April 1

I'm from Gunnison CO. We're under special regs this year because of heavy snow. I'm going to be deer hunting in southern UT so I'll be focusing on shed hunting the same.

    Utah opener on April 1

Thx heartshot. I've got a few special spots, local to me, where I use a decoy vehicle. What appears to be a broken down 90's vintage sedan is just me looking for sheds!! E

    Utah opener on April 1

I'm not gonna follow anyone on foot! I'm just winging it and going to the unit I'll be deer hunting in. What I'm saying is I'll know I'm in the right place when I see local plates parked near likly spots. With my luck I'll see local plates parked and they'll be bear hunting!

    Utah opener on April 1

Since shed season is closed in my neck of the woods this year till, as of now May 15th, I'm going to make the trip to Utah and hunt your opener. I figure since your season is closed till 4/1 this year will be a great opportunity to find good spots. Just drive around and look for parked trucks...

DWR Helicopters chasing Elk? Or some other idiot??

I live in CO. My kitchen Windows provide me a great view of winter range for elk. In years past I've seen helicopters harassing wintering elk herds. Last year I called the local DOW office and was informed that they were doing a herd count. It was the worst example of harassment I've ever seen.

    2016 satistics are up

Time to see how unlucky those of us who didn't draw our first choise were. My elk draw was 88% odds last year with 1 point. This year the odds were 42% with 1 point. Looks like I was a victim of point creep! It's also fun to see people who blew in excess of 10 points for draws that take 0 to 2...

    What's the best

I've been happily stuck in an Eastmans rut for a long time. Hard to beat Bulgle too. These days I'm finding myself going the podcast route more and more. Gritty Bowman, Steven Rinnella, and Randy Newberg all have great shows. Elk 101 has great western hunt info too.

So now that the prices have crashed

If antler prices go down to 5 or 6 $$s a pound for brown. Will you still shed hunt as much as you have the last few years? Or not at all? Or are you like me and love it way to much to stop. Happy Memorial Day and thanks to all who served our country!

    Antler values crashing??

Since I posted this thread I've been investigating and have also heard it is the Russians to blame. They have saturated the Asian market. Thanks guys for all your input.

Forums are interesting. It's almost like high school all over again. You got your regulars and then the newbies trying to break into the circle. I've hunted 67 archery and helped some friends hunt rifle. Both my buddies with rifle tags tagged out before 8 am opening day. Congrats you're in for a fun hunt. There's plenty of good bucks in the 70 inch range to choose from. If you want some more info on where to go feel to contact me via...

How old is this elk shed

I have some chalky elk sheds in my yard for 8 years no lichen. The river rock fence surrounding my yard is 50 years old and it has lichen growing on it. I too have been told 20 plus years to form on an antler. After 20 years wouldn't an antler decompose?

    Wyoming Hunt Consulting/Scouting Package

I just learned airplane scouting is now illegal in Wyoming during hunting season. This has been quite the entertaining thread. Colorado 43 Archery

That's plenty of great reading! You should do well up there. I also applied for that tag. David Long and Eastmans hunted up there and let the cat out of bag years ago. It's still an easy draw but because of them that unit (for residents) has gone from left over tags available to 2nd choise only...

    Colorado 43 Archery

No cattle just sheep and yes in the maroon bells snowmass wilderness. Not a big deal for the chunk of time you have there. Just be prepared to move to other basins if you encounter them. Elk hunters will not be a problem for you. You will see many other archery deer hunters. There is also a high...

    Colorado 43 Archery

Free range domestic sheep exist in the 43 highcounty. They don't seem to effect the elk hunting very much. The herders graze them in the high grassy basins and they will change a mule deers patterns right before archery season starts.

Which unit would you deer hunt?

I would do 61 over 55 (I live in 55) for one reason. Over the counter bull tags in 55. 55 will have elk hunters everywhere. 61 is very limited elk and deer hunting which IMO means a much higher quality hunt. Both units have great bucks. If you decide to do 55 feel free to e mail me. I know some...
