So am I just spinning my wheel and wasting my time with 5 points for both elk and deer. There seems to be a big gap now to the really good units. Would like to have some input on if I should pick a unit and use my points or wait. Any suggestions on what to do and units I should look at would be muchly appreciated. PM me if you would like. Thanks

Yes I would use them now. I am on 9 or 10 points and want to use them but not on 1 and 2 point units... so will wait till I can get 61 (5 year wait minimum for me), would like to have the experience of a whole bunch of nice bulls with a tag in my pocket. After that I have a couple of units that only take 1 and 2 points.Won't bank them again!
You will never reach the harder to draw units in the state with only 5 points...

Let me guess, you drive a 1 ton with oak trees for smoke stacks, 12" lift kit and 40" tires to pull a single place lawn mower trailer?

I have 10 points and I am waiting for unit 61. I haven't hunted it but supposed to be a good unit. It should be in line with your 11 points. I think this year it took 10 NR points for first rifle and 11 for the second. But with point creep you can't say for sure how many PP it will take but you should be close.

Guys the DOW publishes stats on the website. Print out the pts required tables and highlight all of the hunts that are at or just below the pts you have. Then star google scouting and calling bios/dwm's and looking at outfitter harvest pics from those units. Some people may give you information over the internet, but what would be the motivation to sell out your honey hole? It will also help to at least have some specific units to ask about. And finally, sometimes you just have to do your research and take a chance. The worst that can happen is you work your butt off, have a good time, and come home without an animal.

Use them now! You will gain nothing by waiting. Use MrDoe's advice. The only two areas I will direct you other than what you are already thinking would be muzzleloader for both species.

I cashed in my 5 points on a unit 22 3rd rifle this years. Scouted there a couple weeks ago. Got the lay of the land but no deer there yet. We will see how it goes.
