Oh, they blink…….. but that may be all.I'd be very interested in knowing the net worth of any man who chooses a deer tag over 150k in cash. Not knocking it at all.... I just can't relate. I wonder the same about the auction tag winners... how much money do they have if they don't even blink an eye at a couple hundred grand for a hunting license?
The “theory” is: because most of those dollars go back into big game conservations, the dollars you would get for selling the tag would not typically do that.Cash money. A friend and I had a similar conversation the other day about the monetization of hunting. If it was legal to say draw a Henry's tag and sell it what would that look like and how much would the high bidder pay? And why is it legal for the state to sell the states wildlife through expo tags and governors tags but you as an individual citizen can't? As we are reminded of the Public Trust Doctrine. The wildlife are supposed to be preserved for public use not owned and sold by the state to the highest bidders.
That's why the question is $150k rather than $300k that it typically sells for. $150k or so is what a buyer would be out of pocket for. ApproximatelySurely (I hope) those explaining away the purchase of auction tags as a "tax write-off" understand that doesn't mean the hunt is free for the buyer. They have an opportunity, if they choose to take it, to get a modest discount on the price paid, in the form of a bit less federal income tax paid when they file their taxes the next year. That's it. On the bottom line, they'll still be forking over most of the winning bid price plus BP. And then will likely also engage the services of a paid outfitter.
Ya……. If you gave me $150K for the tag I’d owe the IRS another $50K (I’m in a lower bracket than y’all.)That's why the question is $150k rather than $300k that it typically sells for. $150k or so is what a buyer would be out of pocket for. Approximately
WrongPeople don't spend 150k on deer tags. They write off a massive tax bill and get to shoot a huge deer because of it. All money donated to SFW etc is a tax deduction for those guys. The money will go to the IRS otherwise.
I think that is it as long as we label something under the banner "conservation" we can do whatever we please. You could buy my Antelope Island mule deer tag for a lot less than $150K. Wish you could test me on that.
The “theory” is: because most of those dollars go back into big game conservations, the dollars you would get for selling the tag would not typically do that.
Now you may not believe in the theory, like the theory or give a chit about the theory but it is still the premise by which it’s done, to you or for you, depending on you.
Wish you’d have told me that before I picked “2lumpy” for my MM account.I think that is it as long as we label something under the banner "conservation" we can do whatever we please.
It would be great to have that tag and kill the biggest buck out there, just to piss off the outfitter’s ??Even if it was $5000, I would take the $$ over an antelope Island tag.
I would get more satisfaction shooting a mature buck that only scores 170" on an easy to get tag than shooting a 250" on Antelope Island. I think it is great they offer tags for Antelope Island now but the hunting there gets me as excited as hunting "high fenced" deer.
What would be even better would be to sign an agreement with mossy green backs that no matter what buck you shot, his logo had to go on pics and videos had to be posted…..Then wait for a spike to line up with the buck they picked for you and shoot it instead? It would be great to have that tag and kill the biggest buck out there, just to piss off the outfitter’s ??
