Attend or watch tomorrow's Utah Wildlife Board meeting (Nov. 28)

I'm sure this is already on the radar for many of you, but the board is meeting tomorrow, and there's a pretty full agenda. Topics will include mandatory harvest reporting, the proposed research study in southern Utah, possible technology amendments (muzzleloaders and archery equipment), Dedicated Hunter program changes and more. The board members have already received a bunch of online feedback, and you are also welcome to comment in person tomorrow. The meeting will be held at 9 a.m. at the Eccles Wildlife Education Center (1157 South Waterfowl Way) in Farmington. If you won't be attending, you can watch the meeting live or as time allows.

On a personal note, this will likely be one of my final updates on MonsterMuleys. My job has changed a lot in recent years, and I'm doing substantially less social media work these days. Going forward, you may want to bookmark this page — if you haven't already — for quick access to our public meeting agendas, materials and feedback. If you have questions (general or specific), please either call your local DWR office or reach out via one of our social media channels.

Thank you all for your kindness over the years — and for your love of Utah's wildlife. (You argue because you care!) ;) Best of luck on all your future hunting and fishing endeavors!

Thank you Amy! Appreciate the updates you have provided here on the site. Will someone else within the DWR take on your current responsibilities with social media work or is that role going away completely?

Always nice having you provide the information you did on a consistent basis here.

Thanks for the question, elkhunterUT. We have a dedicated, full-time professional who covers our main social media channels (and has for the past couple of years). She sees many of the same types of comments and questions that are posted here. For both consistency and efficiency, it makes sense for questions to go to her through those channels. There will not be someone replacing me as a contact dedicated to MonsterMuleys. If you don't already follow the DWR on Facebook, Instagram, Threads or X, please do so! Or, you can always call one of our offices and visit with our great front desk folks. :)

Can't make it. Headed out on a late mule deer muzzy hunt tomorrow morning that opens Wednesday that my son drew. Will be last muzzy hunt in Utah with the leupold 3x9.

Will read all about it in 10-days after spending time in gods country making memories with one of my son's.

Jealous, have fun Rick and may the muley gods be you guys ...

Amy!
You have been a great help over the years. I know I would have missed a few of meeting if it wasn't because of you. Good luck and Thank you.

Thanks Amy.

Live feed went down right when Troy Justensen was talking about the bomb blonde shell and some other dude on the Mule Deer board. I’m sure it was mindless jibberish. Can’t wait to see everyone at the expo.

Its too bad they voted against the restricted hunts. Lets kick the can down the road even longer. This wont go into effect until 2025 if they do. They will say they dont have enough time to implement rules or language. I guess Bryce T has never been in business. You wait 3-6 months to try and fix a problem, you're done! Why not make it happen now?

The real problem with the proposal is that it did nothing to grow more deer. Just improve some quality. Hope the mule deer committee comes back with a proposal that actually focuses on growing more deer.

Bryce has/is a business guy.

I wish one of them would have added an amendment that there be zero tags cut UNTIL AFTER deer committee.

2 years at the rate we are at us could be another 16,000 tags gone.

30 years of kicking you'd think the can would be pulverized by now

Did it do anything to grow LESS deer though?

Honestly the weapon restrictions are new, especially on rifles.

If so, he either was not successful or he worked for a giant company that had millions (deer) so it didnt matter if they waited a few months to a year. But we are talking about a limited sized company that needs attention, and I am afraid that even a few months can and will have major impact. I hope I am wrong.

Why put that much energy into guesses?

Fencing, winter/summer habitat restoration, water availability, aggressive predator control, winter feeding to name a few. But these things are hard to do and time a lot of time and resource.

I'm not against trying things like weapons restrictions, but it won't help as much as other things that are known to help.

Small buisness.

But I agree with the rest

What energy? A vote? Then a deer count same as any other year?

100% on the others, especially fences

Real question is did they get Ron Desantis presidential announcement team to do the Livestream? Can't the DWR hire a single online porn engineer to get this thing fixed?
This has been the worst feed I have ever used. So crappy and spotty. Keeps blanking out.

Got to love the guys asking about and asking for the November deer hunting to come back ridiculously stupid
I agree. And that will help grow the deer herd? Hunting them even longer with another season? When does it end? Why not have an winter range deer hunt in Dec and Jan for recurve bows too? Maybe even do OTC for those.

Never seen a muzzleloader shot before. What is shooting a muzzleloader like?

How far can you ethically shoot with a scope on a muzzleloader?

How fast can you reload?

How much more likely are you to draw out for a muzzleloader hunt than a rifle hunt?

I was on an elk hunt 2 years ago helping and the guy shot his elk at 500 yards. Missed the 1st shot, but had a 2nd one ready and shot and killed it. Hit it in the head. I lost all interest at that point. You can reload fairly quick. Muzzy hunt is easier to draw than a rifle hunt.

Quite the day

Basically it's 2015 all over.
1x and red dot

Kicking the can down the road on any efforts in deer,. Can't wait for tag cuts next year.

And.

Only 8 Trump swans killed coincidentally tge same year there was penalties for Shooting trumps.

I feel like Marty McFly

Both on LE hunts and general is that correct?

Are you insinuating guys were targeting them?

Na!

That'd Never Happen With That Bunch You Hunt Around!

Yup

No different than the archery extended zones, except people are shooting arrows faster and farther than guys used to shoot patched round balls back in the day.
And archers can reload much quicker.

Hey Hossy!

That Wasn't Directed At Your Family Or You!

That Was Directed At The LAW BREAKIN BITTCHES Finding a Legal Way To Break The Law!

I was on the fence for the restrictions test units.
I like the idea but I would rather wait and see what is in the Mule Deer plan going forward.
We could still see something similar in their proposals.

But would it be able to come into effect this upcoming hunting season? Or will it take another year (kicking the can down the road)?

I’m confused. Prob because I don’t know all the lingo.
Did it pass to remove scopes from Muzzys? Or remove all but 1x?

Would like to believe that this change would increase my odds for a muzzy deer bonus tag next year. But those of us with lots of points prob know how to use a muzzy without magnification. 🙃

I'm just glad the muzzy scope thing is over it ain't going to make a sheeting bit of difference and it won't put more deer in the herds but at least we won't have to hear all this boobing from both sides...hopefully someday they'll realize what really needs to be done to rebuild our deer herds

Only those pure in heart that supported the removal of scopes will be allowed to apply for the muzzy hunt--back to the rifle dregs with you!
Might not need to apply. Muzzleloader tags can probably be sold over the counter now that it will be so difficult to harvest an animal. 🤔😂

I think whatever unit hossblur hunts in should be over the counter tags. Hell kill all the bucks, big ones, little ones all of them. Bucks don’t help the deer herd grow so why not give everyone a tag. When we have killed all the bucks none of these conversations will even matter.

The Muzzy Hunt is Statewide

The sh!tty part is, hoss won’t be able to hunt next year… After posting the “Thanks for your help on scopes” he has to get his rotator cuff surgery done and will be out for several months….

I m in possession of a Thompson Center Hawken .50 Cal. and an original Knight MK .45 Cal. Gentleman asked me to try to sell them for him.

Accepting cash offers, until December 15th. Might make a nice Christmas gift for a Remington Ultima owner or two.
