I was fortunate enough to draw a 6A-south archery bull tag. I am looking for some general info about hunting in AZ.
I work for the Dept of Environment and Conservation here in TN and will be hunting alone (I might have 1 friend who may come along and call. I have hunted in CO and WY and had several close encounters but have yet to release an arrow. Can anyone help me with these questions?
1. Was looking at joining the AZ hunt club (about $100). I saw thier add in the AZ hunting guide and checked out there website. I'm a little skeptical about how much help the information (tank locations, scouting reports)that they provide really is. It seems like I get a lot of the same info of the USGS maps. Or would it be better to renew my Hunting Fool subscribtion that I let expire and try to get some info through that service? Or just do my own scouting based on maps and Google Earth?
2. As far as hunting the tanks, I have heard some horror stories about the competition around them. Is it possible to find out of the way tanks that may not be so crowded? Appears that there are some that are less accessible based on the forrest service maps.
3. Do I need to bring stands and/or ground blinds to hunt these tanks? Or just make ground blinds?
4. Are the canyons/wilderness areas a good place to start my scouting?
Thanks for any information that you can provide. Feel free to e-mail me if you rather. Email is [email protected]
