Was lucky enough to draw a tag !! Looking for advice / recommendations for unit 5 late season?? First time hunting the unit!!

Most of the deer will have likely already migrated west or into Wyoming. Hunt as low as you can go...

I hunted it 3rd last year. Honest opinion myself and most the hunters were disappointed. Had perfect conditions cold and snow. Bucks were rutting. Saw a ton of small bucks but nothing over 150. Hunt the north west corner, one area you can drive, the other is walk in only. Biologist said there were a lot of mature bucks but I sure didn’t see it. Maybe they migrated out like sneak ‘em said.

Any recommendations on lodging in the area?? Did you hunt low elevations?

Put in for 4th season last year with 14 points and struck out. Was going with a guide to who pretty much told me 170 would be a far reach. Did something different this year and struck out again. Good luck on your hunt.

Lot of winterkill there this year. guessing it will be challenging. Good luck

If I were you I’d consider turning the tag back. It wasn’t very good even before the winter kill.

Poor public access but great country. Glass and hunt hard! Stay as close as you can, sleep in the truck if you have to!

Most of GMU 5 will have a couple feet of snow by 4th season. Higher elevations usually won’t hold any deer. Most of the deer will be on the North West. Lots of outfitters and private land. Most of the blm in that lower country is land locked by private. Some access along gmu 4 boundary and Wyoming line
