This afternoon I saw several deer at 9000'+. So yes there are deer back up in the high country. That said, the area I usually hunt deer, is around 8000'+, and over the years I've decided that doing any actual "scouting" is useless until after mid July- first of August. The majority of the animals haven't made it back yet. The deer I have seen in June where I hunt are usually in the process of migrating back to their summer area, and are simply passing through the area in their way. The deer that I see during the hunt, I believe are different animals. It doesn't hurt to go look around in early summer, but don't get too set on an animal you find early on. Odds are they are headed somewhere else for their final destination and most of the other deer still haven't made it all the way up yet.
