Im am planning on next years deer hunt. If I apply with my 12 year old son who has one preference point and I have three points how do they figure the number of points? The area that I am planning on applying for takes at least 3 points. Does that mean that I wont draw?

yes they will take the lowest amount of points i would save your sons pionts and just let him go with you

If you apply together, each of you will have one point and won't get that tag, unless the DOW changes something for next year.

Are there any elk tags available in that unit at the time you are looking to deer hunt, maybe a cow tag? That way you can hunt together, that or as was mentioned, just let him tag a long for the experience.
