When will Colorado change the year of birth, to require a humter safety course? 1949, be real! This is the only state with such an atiquated date.I agree it is a very idea for all young hunters to take a course, but there should be a reasonable age to require it. Am I the only hunter out there that feels this year should be updated?

I am not sure I follow. When they passed the requirement, they grandfathered in all born before 1949. From that point on, it has ALWAYS been required that you have a hunter safety course. You won't get much support on this one. I realize that for this year, you may be too late, and I feel for you, but that is the rule. Even Texas has a similar law. And believe me, they will never change the date they established when the started the law in Texas.

Here is a good link about how to get the certification. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/learning/hunter_education/certification_process.phtml
Maybe you could do the online cert and drive somewhere for the one day course before April 1st. There is a one day course in Austin on March 16 and 29th!

I have taken a hunter safety course, took it in 1966 when i was 12 in Utah. I have hunted colorado for years, I just feel like the date needs updated. Yes Texas requires anyone born after 1972 to have a hunter safety course. Just setting a date, does not seem logical to me. An age limit seems much better. What about in the year 2035, will it still be anyone born after 1949 must have a card? That will mean anyone under 86 yrs old will have to have one.

Yes, because that person will have grown up his entire life with that rule in place. If he/she has hunted all their lives, then they probably already have one. If they just start hunting at 86, they probably need a course. YMO

Why not say ,Anyone who hunts in the state needs a Hunter Safety Certificate . That is the way it is ending up anyway.
