LAST EDITED ON Mar-16-14 AT 11:32AM (MST)[p]When you hear of someone shooting "100 gr of BH 209" (or any powder), they are talking VOLUME. Get you a volumetric measuring tube to measure ANY powder, from real black to pyrodex, 777, or blackhorn 209.
Someday, if you figure out what volume of powder is the most accurate, and you want to measure what that weighs on a scale and then start weighing your loads you can, but it will be different for each powder. Never compare a weighed load of one powder to different powder, only volume comparisons.
As far as how much to use of BH 209, keep in mind that it is about 15% more powerful than real black powder, so when you use 100 gr by vomume, you are using the equivalent of 115 of real black powder.
I use between 80-100 gr of BH 209 by volume. I have heard of people using up to 120 gr by volume (never exceed this) but that KICKS way too hard for me.
My elk loads are 90-95 gr of BH 209. That is plenty of power to kill any elk.
