This one ran into a 150 grainer at 463 yards out of a .300 Holland and Holland. Dropped like a toilet seat.

Nice sheep. Looks like your hunters are doing pretty well. Were those sheep on private ground?

Yes they are. Rio Hondo-FKA the Diamond A, is 100K deeded and roughly 40K BLM and State from about 15 miles west of Roswell to Hondo. Troy Omness manages the game and fish and does and great job. He has a great guide crew also. Its amazing to see how easily they can pic out sheep that is hidden to most folks. The deeded land starts just before you get to Border Hill and runs to Hondo pretty much on both sides of Highway 70. The McCrea Ranch, 19K deeded, is located on the north side of highway at the top of the hill before you drop into Riverside. The McKnight, 6.4K deeded, is right at the bottom of the hill. Rio Hondo borders both these places. We do have an ad in the guided hunts and tags section on the site and yes we are a paid advertiser on the site and have been for several years. The Rio Hondo is not a cakewalk. Glassing and hiking get to the bigger rams. They also have awesome mulie hunting at very reasonable prices. They are doing some very very reasonable guided management hunts next fall.If you have a kid, its a perfect place to get started.

Thanks for the info JFWRC. I have driven through that country on hwy 70 and it sure looks like a great place for aoudad. Guided hunts arent really for me but I would possibly be interested in a self guided trespass fee hunt.

AZhunter-I thought I had heard from one the Rio Hondo guides that McKnight was actually doing just that. Not for sure and I don't have a contact number for you but if you did some nozin around I'd bet you could get a phone number of who to talk to. A guy by the name of Robert Flowers manages the McCrea. My 12 year old Zach got one this morning in unit 30 public land. Small Ram. Will try to post up some pics later.
He was by himself so he may have been the only one in unit 30.

Absolutely, if you want to come along and spot me one, I'll be glad to shoot it! ;-)

I logged about 15 miles yesterday and I think I'm getting a little closer--although I didn't actually see any, even though there was a lot of fresh sign. But there was a bunch of shooting in the same canyon a couple miles north of where I was at. There's an active well right there, and it's been dry enough long enough that the sheep must be starting to congregate around water. Of course, it probably rain big time this week and screw up all my plans for next weekend...
