Question for Mr. Keegan,

I read through the 2013 proposals and did not ready any mention of multiple zone opportunities. There has been talk of providing resident elk hunters the opportunity to choose an additional season or unit. For a fee, of course. I believe this option could generate both revenue and interest for hunters who can only get out a day or two at a time. Thnks.

Thanks for asking.

Yes, multiple zone opportunity is one of the concepts included in the elk planning process. The elk plan is an ongoing process and implementation will not occur until 2014 if progress moves according to schedule and the Commission approves the plan. The elk planning team is working on continuing ways to gather public input and I anticipate public meetings in April, a follow-up random survey of elk hunters, and several other outreach tools. There was a news release about the plan just a few days ago: http://fishandgame.idaho.gov/public/media/viewNewsRelease.cfm?newsID=6580

and there is a link on the IDFG web site devoted to the plan:

Thank you for the reply and the links. I will look forward to the proposals. Since non-resident tag sales are down, maybe tapping resident hunters for a little more would help revenue. It sure would increase opportunity for those of us with a few days here and there.

Thanks
