WARNING.

If you cannot focus on a SUBJECT without saying Trump or Biden, keep it moving.

Im curious.

1. If I sign up for (insert platform here) because I want to follow (insert name here) and that platform starts blocking, or suspending that person, is that platform not now violating the agreement it made with me as a user?

2. How is the internet not a public utility? I keep having tax money used to expand internet into rural, low income, and schools. Explain to me how i pay for it, but im not allowed to expect the same antitrust laws being used that were used on AT&T?

3. And this one is for Founder. Under FB, Google, YouTube new "terms of service", hunting could be considered offensive and violent. Meaning Google could shut down your site on their platform, correct?

4. Explain to me again how EVERY pic/vid, being taken down isn't editorial? Pics and vids of folks at the march were taken down. Under what premise? I saw Ryan Fournier pic of him standing in front of the crowd before the march was removed. Why? How ate you not an editor if you remove entire days of content from one political side?

5. What recourse do I have if im at an event, which FB labels dangerous, violent, or whatever, and im not. Was I not just slandered by FB? Estimated 10,000 at that event. FB just labeled all of tgem offensive/dangerous. If NY post does that they are subject to lawsuit. How does FB not get subjected to the same standard?

Please keep your Trump/Biden stuff out, these discussions start off pretty good, then get locked for obvious reasons

More than likely it was in the form of a government contract. To claim state ownership over every person or entity who benefited from a government handout* is a bad precedent IMO.

Our government has, is, and will continue to pick winners and losers. Your POV depends where you sit at the table. However, the question is particularly interesting when you look at arms companies.

*Most government contracts get something in return and aren’t handouts.

1. You have no assurance of "following" everybody you want in your User Agreement.

2. Infrastructure v content. Two unrelated things. And antitrust lawsuits may be coming.

3. Correct

4. Never heard of Ryan Fournier

5. Facebook doesn't make claims about people. If NY Post were to make knowingly false and damaging claims about you, you'd have recourse. Deleting posts aren't knowingly false or damaging.

6. Even if the "rumors" are true, it wouldn't necessarily make them non-private. The federal government assists with all sorts of private ventures that remain private. From energy to pharmaceutical.

It’d take until summer to respond to all those questions, but I’ll respond to the one directed to me.
The answer is Yes, they could limit or shut my accounts down. In fact, I’ve had many ads on FB denied because it showed things they didn’t want. Sometimes it was approved one week and denied another. Some inconsistency, but completely understandable to me because I have to make judgment calls on this site as well.
As far as Google, they have great control over search traffic that comes to this site.
Neither of them could ever “shut down” my site because my site does not rely on either of those businesses to survive. My site existed long before FB even existed.
But Yes, if they decided they didn’t want hunting stuff on their platforms, then so be it. It’s their choice. Obviously I’d be bummed and it could hurt me financially, but it’s their business to do as they please.

If this website can exist without an “App Store”, Parlor should be able to do the same.

There’s a reason I’ve never built my business on the back of FB, because in the end, they’d own it.

FYI, Parlor might be complaining today, but Apple never has allowed an app for my site and this forum program. Google does/did, but not Apple. I’d love for Apple to allow me in their App Store, but no. So I’m not sad for Parlor. I think it’s crappy that Parlor was allowed and not Xenforo forums.

To me it is the fact that all news is not reported the same. Depending on the channel/ outlet/ website it is either slanted/ignored/lied. News used to be news not a weapon to influence or coverup.
Censorship is everywhere.

Whatever.

The very night that Blake was shot in the back seven times by at least one police officer and unrest began to build, King took to Twitter to essentially fan the flames and push people to take down the police.

"Nah. I'm not going to call for peace," King began. "We've tried peace. For years."

"Y'all don't understand that language," he added.

Then he made clear his and his fellow radical activists' view to take apart the police, to pull down the "system."

That's Shaun King. BLM

Never blocked, labled, shutdown by any platform.

And we all witnessed what happened afterwards.

How is not subjecting him to tge same standards not editorializing?
GRIZZ.

If you slap a content label on a persons content, you very much did just label a person.

I dont have Twitter or Parler. I watched you scream bloody murder and threaten 1st amendment lawsuits when Wyoming tried to make a scouting law. I doubt highly youd just "be bummed".

Do you have an app?
For Android I could, but I use an iPhone and so I’ve never enabled the app for Android users. If Apple would allow us to have apps on their platform, I would enable it in a second. I’d love to have that option!!! Xenforo is always working on it with Apple, but no success yet.
So I’m not sad for Parlor.

I don’t think the two issues are even close to the same. I don’t expect freedom of speech when using someone’s else’s business to voice my speech. But I do expect it when I talk with someone on the phone from my home. But you can disagree, it’s fine with me. I’m now dealing with that as I see fit and people will need to do the same with what’s going on now. Welcome!!!! :)

I think for this discussion we also must remember that on basically any free platform I am the product not the customer. Facebook Twitter even MM give you free access to their site but it is not free to run these sites. You can never have something for nothing. For Facebook, they are selling me to the paying customers which are advertisers. Same with any other free site, though not always to the same extent as the big guys.
So just like has been said before, these businesses can do what they want with their property, if you go in and keep revenue flowing, you will be welcome generally. If you go in and drive down revenue by being a jerk or running people off or catching the eye of law enforcement or regulators , you will be banned or censored. There is very little principle involved other than money.
Small guys like founder can have more principle in their method because they don’t have shareholders to deal with but still, if you poop in his living room, don’t expect to be welcomed back quickly!

Ill offer up 2 names.

Dan Bongino

Ben Shapiro

Both bring huge follower bases, both are multimillion dollar accounts. Both get banned, shadow banned, throttled on almost daily basis.

Bongino got suspended for retweeting Trumps tweet telling rioters to go home.

Further. Elijah Shaffer, a journalist got suspended for video he took as a journalist, yet ill assume CNN is still showing images(many Shaffer took) and still talking.

The censorship subject is basically the Former Presidents "definition of what is, is" defense. We all see it, we all know what it is, we all know why its happening.

My worries are more broad.

RMEF,MDF.

TRCP, Meateater, Newberg

Hoyt, Buck

We all know gun companies.

When arbitrary enforcement of policies(censorship) take place amongst monopolistic tech companies, there isn't a voice to counter it.

Them banning RMEF because hunting is viloent, under their stunt they pulled on the 6th, means EVERYONE who is even loosely associated gets banned. The daisy chain effect would devistate hunting and conservation.

I wonder why a network like Fox doesn’t just let those banned from Twitter to come on their network and just say whatever they want? I’d bet it’s because they don’t want to be responsible if something bad happens. I don’t blame them, but it’s the same with online businesses. Nobody wants blood on their hands.
I would feel horrible if this site had been used to incite a riot that took someone’s life.

I'm all about freedom of thought and speech in our country even if I don't agree with someone. We have seen our freedoms eroded over the last several years with 2020 leading the way in limiting what we are allowed to do because of covid. The powerful have been emboldened in their control of the masses and will find ways to continue their control. Now we are losing our ability to speak out against this. I've been to China and Russia and we are beginning to look more like them every day. Wake up America before its too late.

Coincidence which one was banned.

Even funnier that the MSM is calling for his banning, while licensing his pics, but I digress.

If they end up yanking that Section 230 protection, that’s exactly what you’ll see here with every post. Of course that would likely drive me out of business at some point.
Revisiting Section 230 and making smart changes is fine, but yanking it completely destroys little guys like this site. The big boys have the resources to adapt. Little guys like me do not.

I don’t understand why it is that now social media is the only way to “speak out”? How did people speak out before social media?
It’s similar to my kids getting upset they can’t communicate with anyone when their cell phone is taken away. We tell them, there’s a phone “land line” over on the counter. Call your friend!!! :)
BUT, I’ll be honest, the only social media I really use is this site. I have FB, Instagram and Twitter but only use them to promote this site, not for general communication.

Just as Home Depot, Walmart and other huge companies are winning in their fields, the huge social media sites will win in their field as well. :(
I’ve had to hedge my bets by investing in FB and Google who have taken share from this site for 10 years. Don’t like it, but what do you do?

I would feel horrible if this site had been used to incite a riot that took someone’s life.

Quite certain nobody on this forum is like that.

The only thing to point out is who actually agitated things that caused riots to occur? And no, not talking about last week, talking about all summer. It goes both ways and we all need to do better

What people are most upset with is the double standard and being ostracized and demonized for standing up for the traditions of this nation....

I'll try and do this generally so as to not devolve into politics...

One woman (who has now been banned by Twitter) went on Fox and said some specific things recently about a company who then sent attorney letters and thus forced FNC to publish on-air retractions during primetime. That same company recently sued that woman for billions of dollars and said more lawsuits are pending.

Bottom line is FNC can be held liable for untrue things said on their channel, they can't allow what you're suggesting of people saying "whatever they want."

You might think no one here is like that but we saw this week that people are people and can digress into all kinds of foolishness when they get desperate. We could talk about the differences and similarities between the summer's protests and this week's but that does nothing to discern what is right or wrong. Just like if your kid stole something you wouldn't let them off with the defense "someone at school stole something last week and they didn't get in trouble." You'd say "we're not talking about them right now, we're talking about you!" Perceived double standards have nothing to do whether a thing is right or wrong. We are all very good at finding ways to justifying our actions.

The left and the right can be moved to foolish, illegal, destructive things when they feel desperate and when they are worked up into a frenzy. We are all capable of great evil and if we think we are above it, that is when we are most in danger of falling into it!

Jails are filled with people who feel they are innocent, not because they didn't do the crime but because they felt their motives were good or they had no other choice.

A healthy understanding for my capacity for evil keeps me humble enough to always be willing to examine my motives and hear criticism from people who care about me enough to tell me I'm out of line.

Desperation is a completely different animal often confused with really being upset, mad, whatever adjective you choose to use.

I too am more afraid of what I may be capable of if truly pushed into a corner of true desperation...

I think most people here would admit they'd do unthinkable things if it were necessary to save their child.

There are people who truly feel our country is under similar siege, and we saw that desperation last week. I think the tech companies believe they're trying to stop furthering that invective.

I believe we all hope it doesn't manifest itself again in 11 days. When you have 300,000,000 people in a country, there's bound to be some loons. And that goes for both sides.

Are you making my point?

When tech slaps a blanket label on 10k people, aka banning all vid/photos of an event they attended, they label every one of those people.

There is actual proof that 10k people didnt storm the capitol.

As to Founder.

230 came in the infancy of the internet. Before anyone figured out how to profit from it.

Its not a coincidence that Parler is in the cross hairs. Although not an equal, if the conservative ecosphere bails from FB, Twitter, youtube, they take 10s of millions of followers with them.

Mask Levin bailed completely last week. Bongino announced he was following, and they were lined up to follow.

This has zero to do with standards. It is trying to kill a competitor by using your monopoly to do so.

No different than standard oil killing its competitors with rail rate fixing.

We keep pretending these are platforms. They arent. They are the richest companies in the world trying to kill off their competitors.

Its old school greed and power.

They try and hide behind policies.

But like i showed previous, with Shaun King, they arent applied except in benefit of their power.

I'm making nobody's point but my own, but if you're equivocating TV and internet you're missing a major distinction.

And it appears you keep trying to say that erasing a post is the same as unlawful slanderous speech about a person or business. It's not.

Twitter stopped a Post story on Hunter Biden investigation cited it policy on "propaganda".

The investigation started in 2018. It was not false. Was not incorrect.

Twitter publically damaged the Post brand, integrity. Yet it can hide behind 230.

That lawyer you bring up possibly damaged Dominions brand and is now subject to 1.5 billion lawsuit.

There is no difference.

As a side note.

Discovery in that case will be "interesting"

Or they will persuade us to vote a certain way. They will hit everyone with pre selected news stories slanted a certain way and make the opposition look like dumb fuks with selected videos of toothless homeless looking people that sound as dumb as they look. It should work out well for them with the gun control battle. And the information from the other side will be labeled alt right, and that will put you in the group of white supremacy.
I don’t blame them. If I had that power, I would use it to shift politics to my favor.

I would be just as upset if this was happening to Biden and the endless list of talking heads on the the left. @John - John - Sunday (tomorrow) at midnight Amazon will be... (parler.com)

Sunday (tomorrow) at midnight Amazon will be shutting off all of our servers in an attempt to completely remove free speech off the internet. There is the possibility Parler will be unavailable on the internet for up to a week as we rebuild from scratch. We prepared for events like this by never relying on amazons proprietary infrastructure and building bare metal products.

We will try our best to move to a new provider right now as we have many competing for our business, however Amazon, Google and Apple purposefully did this as a coordinated effort knowing our options would be limited and knowing this would inflict the most damage right as President Trump was banned from the tech companies.

This was a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the market place. We were too successful too fast. You can expect the war on competition and free speech to continue, but don’t count us out.

^^^ scary precedent. Also why I've been buying Ethereum... because Google and AWS have too much centralized hosting power and for political, or apolitical, purposes I think people will want an alternative.

How would everybody recommend hosting services deal with a site that has dozens and dozens of posts planning specific violent and terroristic attacks against our country?

Here are a few AWS provided to Parler when they first warned them they could be cut off.

Outside of a crime like doxing, literally the worst thing that can happen to you on the internet is to get your feelings hurt. If you are stupid enough to be manipulated that’s not “the internets” fault.

Founder, you state that these tech companies are private and have the right to choose who can use their platforms. It also looks as if the left in our country supports their right remove those disagree with. It kind of funny that the left took the baker (private company) to court because they wouldn't make a wedding cake for a guy couple because of religious beliefs. Or how about the left taking nuns to court because they wouldn't supply free day after abortion pills to their employees. No hypocrisy here.....ha.

RELH, yes I am. If you notice Twitter hasn't taken down the Supreme Leader of Iran who is calling for death to America and Israel. I also haven't heard much about Antifa or leftist groups taken down after the riots from last year. Its pretty obvious whats going on.

Grizz, what should be done about a company like Twitter that allows for leaders who call death to America, in tweets(the tweet is still there)

Or for tweets from Chinese Government defending slavery?

Under what you keep trying to push its only right that Twitter lose its app from Apple and Google, correct?

But again. This isn't about speech. This is political, First and Foremost.

Business second.

But if you dont see GOOGLE, Apple, Amazon coordinating as a massive monopoly, your simply insane.

Ill assume Founder might even of woke up a little with servers being used now. Unless he is running his own, he is now in the cross hairs.

Dont think PETA and the like patent watching and learning

Trophy hunting is definitely in the cross hairs of things to censor. You can see it in the comments of a lot of hunting videos.

If private companies have the right to run their businesses how they see fit why have bars and restaurants been shut down or throttled the past year?
It's being done in the name of "public safety". A very dangerous road to go down. It's headed toward climate change emergency orders, among other things.

It’s the easiest way to strip our ”rights” away. It’s how they will get our guns, internal combustion engines, websites, you name it.

I wish live and let live still worked.

I should be able to launch a torpedo out the tube, but General Public says I can’t be trusted with more than 1.6 lpf. (n)

Won’t matter. General Public will decide I’m too old to drive and send me to a covid death camp to live out my golden years.

All because of censorship. ;)

It appears you're each attempting to make the same point about companies being able to operate as they see fit. If you believe the nuns shouldn't have to pay for birth control or that a bakery can pick it's own customers, then you must also agree that a tech company can choose which apps operate on its platform. You claim to be upset that twitter could ban a customer but then claim to be upset that a bakery couldn't.

Which is it? Should a private business be controlled by the government, or should it get to operate as it sees fit?

From your posts, it appears you're calling the left hypocrites for their selective application of government intervention, but not seeing your own hypocrisy here... that you're trying to selectively apply government intervention by allowing the bakery to operate it's business as it chooses but not allow the tech company.

Nothing should be done about Twitter. They can do what they want. I've never had a Twitter, FB, Instagram account and I never will. But I'm certainly not going to attempt to apply government oversight to information just because I disagree with it. That would be idiotic.

As to the second... I've never said that. You have a bad habit of putting words in people's mouths that they never said.

PS. Twitter does give special consideration to world leaders. They had long ago warned Trump than he'd lose that protection when he was no longer president. It appears they moved that timeline up a few weeks after the attacks on the Capitol.

You need to reread what wrote. I was saying that the left that is supporting Twitter, Facebook, Amazon and Google to remove who they want on their platforms are the same people that supported suing the nuns and baker.

As I’ve said before, if politicians want to take a look at Section 230 and make appropriate changes that aren’t the Atomic Bomb that was called for very recently, then so be it. Just removing that protection overnight would have destroyed many, many people, but not likely the big tech companies who were in the crosshairs, as they probably already have in place plans to adapt with AI. I don’t.

That threat to my business didn’t come from the crowd many of you think I should be worried about, so the comments suggesting I should be worried NOW doesn’t work. My threat is gone for now!

As for much of what others here are so worried about, I’m not. I’m 100% confident I’ll still have my guns when I die. I’d worry about running out of opportunity to hunt much more than losing my guns. And at this point, I think smart choices on Section 230 will happen, not the Atomic Bomb that would hurt so many little guys.

The ignorance here is astonishing. Obviously a lot of people and likely the older generation have no idea how the new world works. Your witnessing the birth of the ministry of truth. How convenient for the left ( or any government branch) that a “private” company can wield such enormous power over such an enormous portion of the population. Finally the bill of rights will just a piece of paper.

of course they won’t take your guns founder. Why would they? Speech is so much more dangerous. Control that and who cares what you have now. Keep it. Of course they’ll limit anything you can have from here out, and your ability to have ammunition. And you won’t be able to do a thing about it, your dissension will be censored

You are either willfully ignorant due to political party bias or (this is my guess) to old to really understand the implications of social media and it’s power. Sound like you believe there will still be a good news paper man out there to give us the real skinny. There won’t be.

Facebook has scared me since I first heard about it. My wife asked me at the time why I wouldn’t go on there. I told her “ if hitler would have had face book there’d be no Jews left in the world”

these companies have become more powerful then the United States government. Unelected tyrants is the future of this country. But yeah, like my last post. Bill of rights will still be there under the glass. Anybody really think they would just come out and say” no more first amendment guys, sorry” wake up folks

Your issue isn’t with us old guys. And you ain’t the only one here who is enlightened.

I don’t know if anyone took you up on it, but I will bet you a benji that there will be an election in 2024. And I will also bet you another $100 that a democrat will be sworn in as a result. You have to take them both.

These hoodlums didn’t lay in front of a tank.

Well, good on you for fighting for whatever you want, just be careful about the fighting here on this site. I don’t want the political fights here, so please don’t do that.

For the record I’m not “ young” I just know the demographic that’s the most disconnected to where this threat is coming from.

as to the bet, I think that second part is to weighted in your favor. Any “ elections” from here on out is going to be Venezuelan. Guessing you’ll have to have your inoculation papers and register political affiliation. Then darned if certain envelopes from the all mail in “elections” just get misplaced.

I think that I will be right. We’ll never have an American election again. Something like I outline here, but not an election

I read what you wrote and pointed out the hypocrisy on both sides. You're claiming one side is hypocritical for their opposing views on government intervention in private business; I'm pointing out the other side has the same hypocrisy as they clamor the inverse positions in both cases.

So is your solution to take the power from private companies and give it to the government?

No, to get our stupid heads out of the sand and realize an un elected oligarchy is controlling and oppressing speech and in turn policy in this country.

monopoly’s have been broken up before in this country. This is not new precedent. The power should be where it’s always been. With the people. For that there needs to exist a free press. Right now there isn’t. Fully oppressed by again, a few unelected oligarchs

Meet Jack - Jack lied 3 times in one post. Jack is a liar.

If you don't agree with Jack or the left, you're on the wrong side. When was the last time a large segment of the population had their speech suppressed? We've been here before, history is repeating itself. OYFE

Grizzly, did you actually censor out the term “ the left” in your quote or did this web site do that? Either way....wow

I did because @Founder asked you to not pick fights in post #90 and the purpose of my question wasn't which political ideology you were speaking of, it was directed towards private vs government.

Regardless of which side you're referring to, it was a superfluous distinction that didn't need to be made and counteracted the purpose of my question.

I read that #walk away got cancelled.

Owner pointed out that the site was banned. As were "contributers"

Which are subcontractors that weren't employees.

Which will and does mean anyone the "questionable" site hires to do work for the site will face cancellation for doing so.

Grizzly keeps saying government shouldn't intervene. I agree. Government shouldn't protect one publisher in favor over others.

Remove 230, FB can ban whoever they want, edit all they want, do what they want. Like every other private business.

You cant hide behind the government, then cry about government.

Millions of businesses require waivers from users for liability protection. There would be no problem for any tech company requirng that as part of a user agreement.

But it would put a check on those companies blanket cancelling and labels if they had to defend that in court.
