I recently started a thread I titled "The Biggest Loser" and shortly afterward the post disappeared. It was taken down at my request, as a Game Warden asked me to remove it until they could finish their investigation of the individual the post referred to. I've now been notified that they've wrapped up their case and the fellow will have his day in court.
Some of you will remember a "hunter" by the name of Coleman Houston. He goes by Colehous on some websites. Anyway, he posted pictures of some very large bucks that he claimed he killed in the western end of California's D5 zone, which is mostly blacktail deer country. The deer in this region weigh from 100-150 pounds and sport antlers that are generally classic blacktail type antlers, with any buck scoring over 130 being a really nice deer. So, along comes this fellow and he posts photos of himself with two sets of antlers, claiming that he shot both of these bucks 90 minutes apart on October 30th with a bow...which is 2 days prior to the end of our rifle season. To lend some perspecitve, one set of antlers is 30 1/2" wide and scored 195, while the other is a 34" non-typical. We hunt the same country where he claimed to kill these bucks, so something didn't seem right. We got to doing some internet searching and found his deer antlers. The only problem was, they weren't being held by Coleman Houston, but by a pretty lady in a pink top....on ebay! Here are the ebay auction item numbers, 230389968437 and 230389970226. These deer were purchased for $500.00 and $300.01, shipped to him and then he claimed to have killed them with his bow. Here are links to two of the websites where he posted tales of his success.
Perhaps the most ludicrous post I saw this guy ever make about these two deer was "I couldn't decide which one to shoot, so I shot both of them." Yeah, right; and I'm Bill Gates.

This guy has had articles published in Muley Crazy, California Game and Fish, and perhaps other magazines of which I'm not aware. He somehow pulled the wool over their eyes, as well as California Bowmen Hunters (state record keeping organizaiton) and Pope & Young. At this point, I'm pretty sure that Fish and Game has concluded their investigation and charged him with whatever crimes they found, so in the interest of hunters policing our own ranks, I thought I should post "The Rest of the Story" for everyone to know.
Please, take a look at those two ebay auction items. It's easy, just go to ebay and type those numbers into search, search sporting goods, and you'll see an attractive chick holding the antlers. Then, go to those two other websites and see Coleman Houston holding those same sets of antlers and read his tale of adventure about how he killed these monster bucks at the end of rifle season with his bow. To give you some perspective, the 2007 and 2008 bucks he had published in Muley Crazy are listed at the top of California's bowhunting record books, and this year's deer would have displaced those. Doesn't that seem like an amazing run of luck for one hunter in three years? From a unit were a 130 class buck is a BIG deer? And just think, he did it all with a bow at the end of rifle season! WOW!!!
And now, you realize why I titled this post "The Biggest Loser." This fellow is exactly that in my eyes. He's a disgrace to legal and ethical hunters everywhere, but at least his scam has been discovered.
