Drew the rifle for Thousand Lakes this year and had the chance to scout a couple days, but had to cut it short due to my fourth gear getting stuck in low and had to make time to drive all the way back to SLC at 25 mph to make it to work in time. Ironically, I saw all of the game while driving around, and almost nothing while hiking. I think it was probably due to the overcast and wet weather that brought the deer out while I happened to be driving around. I will be going at least a couple days early to scout some more just before the hunt. I've done the mapping and this area is as big as any. Does anyone have advise on scouting this area? Where do other hunters crowd up? What are areas that are just plain unproductive and aren't worth the exploration? I've never had an issue putting miles on the boots and will definitely put my work into this area, but would like to reduce the scouting area by some degree. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
