Transporting Game Meat

Hello

I am planning a hunt this month in another state and will processing the meat when I get back to my home state. I was wondering if anyone knew of the best way to transport my game meat. It will be at least 24 hrs before I will get to my butcher. Will dry ice work? Keep the meat in game cloth? Use plastic to keep meat from ice or water. I have a large cooler and the high temps in NM will in the 50's.

depending on the size of your cooler, but we have done it with whitetail, where i put dry ice on the bottom,and I put a sheeet of tin on top of it, then put the meat, then another sheet of tin, then more dry ice.

I would put blocked ice in the bottom of your cooler(s) and leave the drain unplugged. Put some garbage bags between the meat and ice. Check on it whenever you stop and you should be good to go. Not sure about dry ice. May freeze your meat before getting to the butcher. Good luck!

I use this method in August and September, it works great.
