Unit 61 Bear

I will be drawing limited rifle for Bear this year in unit 61 (I have 8 points). Would like to hear from those who have hunted the unit before that can offer constructive recommendations and starting points. Feel free to post, PM, or e-mail. Thanks in advance.

There are a ton of bears on the Uncompahgre Plateau. Almost every canyon that has a stream (which is almost everyone) will hold bears. They will be in the oakbrush mainly unless we have a bad spring freeze this year. There is an estimated population of 1.2 bears per square mile on the Unc.

I saw a ton of bear sign when I hunted there, and I was in the oakbrush. How to hunt em??? that's a good question. Maybe over a gutpile?? I had a bear hunter ask me when mine was and I told him to follow the horse tracks to it.

Get a hold of buglingbilly on this site. He hunted bear there last year. You won't find a more helpful forthcoming guy than him.
