Unit 9 late

I drew a 9 late tag. I have hiked around there a few times, but would love to hear from anyone that has hunted the late hunt on advise.

Assuming you are talking about elk? Won't be easy on the late hunt.

Watch the weather.

After the rut, bulls like to head of by themselves or with another bull in deep, dark, and quiet areas.

Another thing, many big bulls will be broken up from fighting. Some will have one or more points missing.

Like Don said, watch the weather. It can be brutally cold and wet. We have had the late hunt several times and taken some small bulls. It is a tough hunt.

Big bulls live in Unit 9. Big bulls get big because they make it through the late hunt. Scout long, hunt hard. You may make yourself lucky.

We didn't hunt Unit 9 on the late hunt last year, but did have an archery and muzzleloader hunters,who both took good bulls in the unit.

Hope for either warm, dry weather or snow. Anything in between makes it tough. I had this tag once and it was good for the first few days, then the temp went down to 4 degrees and elk quit hitting water. I never saw a bull bigger than 300" after it got cold. Ate my tag rather than shoot a bull smaller than I wanted.
