Hey guys looking to do an archery hunt in Idaho this fall & was wondering which zone would be better fot first timer in Idaho Tex creek or Diamond creek? Not looking for honey holes just wondering which zone would be better. Tired of not drawing an elk tag & want to do a fun OTC hunt. Not picky will shoot a raghorn if given the chance just want to hunt elk!! Thanks in advance for any input

Diamond creek is a pretty popular unit. Lots of elk in both places and lots of public land. Haven't seen the hunting pressure in tex creek but I know there were lots of elk there this winter.

10-12 years ago, Diamond was better, but like anything, things change, I don't think there is enough of a difference between them now. Take a look at the maps get a feel for the lay of the land and access and just go with what you like better. Then it's your call and all the more satisfaction when you stick an arrow in your bull.

Both units are very good for elk hunting, but differ considerably in country, amount of public land, ATV traffic, and NR pressure. Also successes vary by bow or rifle, general vs. controlled hunt.... Depends what you're looking for.

Tex Creek - 1800 sq. miles and 36% public land. 4-5000 elk, and about a 20% total success rate. 28% of the bull harvest were 6 pt. Can hunt a lot of agricultural in 69 or rough stuff in 66.

Diamond Creek - Pretty close in size at 1650 sq. miles, and 60% public. About 3000 elk now, and 25-30% success with higher (42%) percentage of 6 pts. Can get farther away from roads, but more people do that too. You're gonna run into people both places.
