So get this....

a close friend of mine just moved to Kansas to try and start a career. Kudos to him for having the will to get out and be the first of me and all the guys to move out and start a life. but before he did that he decided to put in for MT Dutton Archery. He is not much of a hunter to start with, but I have experience on the Dutt and told him I would lend him a hand on the hunt if he was successful. he had 3 points. We just found out he drew...

With his new job he cant take any vacation for a year. so hunting the tag is out. I told him he needs to turn the tag back. He wont cause the DNR wont give him his money back. I cant get it through his head that his points are something he will always wanna have even if he never puts back in. so now instead of loosing a few hundred bucks.... few hundred $$$, points and picks up 5 year waiting period. But the tag needs to go to someone that will use it! im sure it would make it to one of my fellow MMs

Gotta love stubborn friends ...

Yup that's sad that your friend is that greedy. Guess its his choice, but most would choose to give someone else an opportunity

I had a limited entry tag last year and had to turn it in due to my moving to a new place and the dwr gave me my points back and gave me half my money back and some lucky joe got to hunt I believe if you turn your tag in asap or 60 days before the hunt you get part of your money back. It was a sasd day when I turned mine in but I got lucky and drew same tag this year I would havebyour buddy do some more research before wasting that tag plus the points and the waiting period just my opinion good luck

LAST EDITED ON Jun-06-11 AT 08:39PM (MST)[p]From what I read a week or so ago, I believe it is a 25 dollar fee to return a tag if you do it 30 days before the season starts.

You not only keep your points but earn one for this year as well.

If I were him I'd just get sick in September. A really horrible flu for a week.

haha me too. but he could give a $hit less about coming back out here to hunt. he says he is gonna start hunting whitetails...

But Ill just bug him tell he turns that tag back

My wife turned her pahvant tag back in last year and got all her one back, no fees. Was this a new change for this year.

This rule has been changed, and you can get a refund on a limited-entry or once-in-a-lifetime permit if you return it quickly enough. Check out page 35 of the 2011 Big Game Field Regulations (third bullet under Refunds):

The Division may provide a refund if you obtain a once-in-a-lifetime or limited-entry permit and then surrender it to the Division no less than 30 days before the season-opening date. Under these circumstances, you will receive a refund of the permit fee?minus a $25 refund fee?and your bonus points will be reinstated.

Hey Amy, thanks for the info.....it has been nice to have a DWR employee cut out the middle man for info....

As a lucky recipient of a reallocated Dutton muzz tag last year, I have to say two things. He will get all but $25 dollars back and make someone else VERY HAPPY!!!

Tell your bone-headed buddy to do the right thing, save and gain points, get most of his $$$ back and make a fellow hunter happy!

That way we'll have more cool stories and pics on MM to enjoy!

Zeke

PS; tell him to find a great place for me to chase a WT with my bow in KS! haha
