just wondering what kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting on your HEAVY DUTY trucks. diesel or gas it does not matter ford vs chevy vs dodge

03 Dodge diesel one ton . It all depends on how fast I'm going. Empty or towing, etc, etc. But 65 empty I get 20-22. If I can only go 55 then it jumps up to 24. I'm happy with it.

03 dodge cummins. 18 on interstate and high of 22-24 if i go 65 miles per hour on highway

Hey Tailchasers?

You got a Raw Egg in between your foot & the throttle Pedal?

Ain't nothin even touch a CUMMINS Pre-Smogger Version!

2003 Dodge 3/4 ton. 5.7 L Hemi. Just checked this afternoon, did a 30 mile run, 15 down, 15 back. Set the cruise at 55 going down (1500 RPM's), showed 15.6 on the computer when I turned around. Set the cruise at 65 on the way back (more uphill, but only slightly), computer registered at 15.7 (1800 RPM's). I just recently changed spark plugs, and just today, O2 sensors. I was getting 14 on a good day on the highway, so we will see what the average is now.

2004 F 250 Powerstroke. Hwy up to 24 depending on the foot. With a 3500 pound camper and two ATV's about 12.

2002 GMC 1/2T w/5.3 gas motor. City driving around 16 on highway at cruise control set at 65....20/21 MPG. Going thru Nevada it is set at 75MPH and get about 20MPG

2001 4x4 super duty 35" tires with programmer 18 hwy 15-16 towing

2006 dodge 5.9 35" tires with programmer 22hwy 18towing

My old 2004 duramax with programmer got anywhere from 24-29 highway 18-21 around town and 14-16 pulling my 24 foot camp trailer. Never should have sold her! 05 Cummins 18-20 no matter how I drove her. I lost my job and had to sell the Cummins, now I drive a Toy.

Traditional >>>------->

2010 F350/V-10

11-12 back and forth to the job---

15-16 highway--not towing....I have found that if I go over 2k RPM's it drops bigtime on the MPG----highway so 2k RPM's puts me at 70--71 MPH just fine for cruising along...

Towing---depends on how much wind I am towing into----anywheres from 7.5--8.5 up to 10-11 MPG......I do upgrade to 91 octane when towing...

My 3rd V-10, 1999, 2005 and this 2010.

Ya do not buy a full size truck for fuel MPG's----ya buy it for a truck! ha

Well I find if I don't drive this was I tend to miss more critters while shooting outta the window. That and I spill my beer otherwise too. If chevy would do something with their suspension I'd wouldn't be such a tender foot.

with my tundra I get 16 to 17 with my atv trailer pulling my ATV's or my pontoon boats. I get 18 to 20 on the hi way no trailer. Ron

09 GMC Duramax gets 16 average. Hook the trailer on it and get 7 mpg. It will pull any hill at 70 plus with my foot pushed thru the floor.

Had the 03 Duramax and could get 24 Hwy and 12 with the trailer.

17.7 if the computer is accurate on my 2009 duramax. Most miles are highway. I have 45K miles and mpg's are improving as miles build up.

05 LLY dmax

35" tires - 6 inch lift

programmed

avg 16 mpg on pavement

12 pulling horse trailer and horses

Outside of a horse is good for the inside of a man.

Honda foreman 450. About 35 to 40 depending on how much sagebrush I'm running over and how far off road I get.

About 14 city, 18 highway in the Caddy Escalade with the vortec 6.2 L with the 6 speed auto. Yeah I got the spinners on it.

Just bought a 02 Cummins and was very surprised on how well it does. 27 freeway 20-22 other. the average it shows is 23 but dont know if it is accurate?

2001 cummins/5spd with 35's and a tiiming box = 22 highway (below 65 mph) and around 18-19 in town. Very dependent on driving style!

i use my trip meter to get my mileage and divide it by the gallons when i fill up. ive never gotten over 20 in any of my 3 cummins. i get around 17-18 empty and goes down from there pulling depending on how heavy and how fast i drive. those digital readouts on the trucks aren't very accurate.

08 duramax, before the programmer I got 16 empty 10 pulling. With the programmer pulling on tow I get 14 with 12k on. Empty on tow I get 18. On the fuel saver mode to and from st george going 85 I got 23.5, it doesn't have the fuel calculator so its my math. Running 285s.

The programmer is a superchips flashpaq.

07 cummins got 14 empty, 7 pulling and was a gutless pos and the suspension couldn't handle a trailer to save its life! The duramax is 10 times the truck on every aspect!

Just for Bess... but seriously...

Chevy Silverado 2500, 6.0 l gas... towing 9 is generous...
with two quads on the rack towing my 27 foot camp trailer maybe 7-8,

just cruising... one hot girl next to me... 14, two hot girls next to me... who cares?

:)

My F350 with cabover at 65 will get about 13.5 to 14 and 19 unloaded at 65. I figure 3 transmissions per out of state trip average.

1999 F250 7.3 powerstroke. 17.5 highway with programmer set on tow. Never checked it towing the toy hauler at 8500lbs. But I'll be sure to chime in on Tuesday when I get back from huntin!

that's how I'm doing mine as well... except I correct for my larger tires. My speedo is 8% off (as calculated with cruise on 60 mph and reliable gps showing 65/66 mph). So I take my trip odometer miles *1.08 then divide by number of gallons at fillup.

2000 F250 Crew 7.3 diesel. Bought new, now has 240,000 on it.

Town/Mountain Road 14.

Highway/Freeway at 70/80 mph 16.5-18, depending on wind and vertical climbs.

Towing anything regardless of the weight 12.

Anytime I drop the tail gate it jumps 1 to 1.5 on the highway. Looks trashy but on long trips I've been known to let it hang.

2006 Ford crew cab dually 4X4 Diesel...put 4" exhaust, K&N filter system and programable superchip...
At 65 mph I can get close to 18 mpg at 75 I get 16.5 mpg
Pulling my 38' toyhauler at 65 mph I get a little over 11 mpg..

1996 ford f250 powerstroke 274k miles 5 speed 4.10 gears 4 inch lift 35 inch tires. 16.0 @ 72mph & 2500 rpm. 17.5 @ 65 mph & 2200 rpm. average about 15 mixed towing, city, highway and drivin up the mountain.

thought this was a post on heavy duty trucks. so, all you "toyota" drivers think your trucks are heavy duty? ha ha ha. thats cute.

btw, my 98.5 24v does about 19mpg driving mixed highway/city, for work travel.

If I take the luggage rack off my
"98" Subaru Outback & really watch myself I can get around 31 mpg. But if I'm feeling all knarley & pound it down a dirt road I only get about 24 mpg. I don't do that often because I feel so guilty.

sounds accurate. mine have all been stock. im sure programmers or chips might help but never had the need for more power. personally if i didn't pull anything i wouldn't buy a diesel but the mileage is nice compaired to the big gas engines.

I miss my old '61 VW Beetle. It had a 36hp HD motor. 29 mpg. I had more than one blacktail stuffed up under the hood.

ropeit, I agree, much rather have the gasoline but for hauling, then there's nothing like the diesel. I'm seriously looking for another used one. Something with under 50,000 miles on it and I'd prefer a Ford. I'm also pretty sure I'm going to have a CNG system installed on it.

I'd like to hear about diesel pickup CNG experiences folks have had.
