    Wyoming Range Mule Deer

We’re not a conservation group in the typical sense and shouldn’t rely on fundraising like most conservation organizations. Our primary goal is to create a stronger, unified voice that advocates for the Wyoming range deer herd. Our bylaws will not allow for compensation to board members or...

    Wyoming Range Mule Deer

Brad Carter here, would love to have you guys learn a bit more about the organization. It’s great to speculate, but would be preferred if rumors didn’t get started erroneously. 100% volunteer Biggest concern is creating a voice for the hunter. The outfitters involved in this are not in favor...

Mule Deer Crisis in Western Wyoming

Buck to doe ratio is an important indicator in herd health. When deer are over hunted it doesn't show up in the genetics, it shows up in the available bucks. The genetics are still in the herd, they need age to show their genetic potential. Deer numbers across the west have been going down for...

Mule Deer Crisis in Western Wyoming

I heard the preliminary results from the recent surveys showed a buck to doe ratio of 34:100 in the sublette winter herd. Overall numbers are down by about 35-40% which is expected after a very harsh winter. All of the does are getting bred. There may be fewer big bucks out there, but Mr. NTO...

    Question for Wyoming Residents

The game and fish did a big attitude survey on exactly this, and overwhelmingly residents were against a limited quota being put in place, and were also against choosing a unit/region. Also, when citing numbers from the game and fish harvest reports, if you hunted multiple areas you are counted...

    OnXMaps Customer Service

I've always had good customer service from OnxMaps. I've worked in the data processing industry where we have to rely on software and it always has issues -- that's why they release updates, and fix issues when people find them. I have worked with OnXmaps for a few years and know they care...

Coyote_Chaser -- I work with the guys over at OnXMaps and they're customer service has always been good. Shoot me your contact info and I can make sure someone gets ahold of you. I've used their chips for about 8 years and have always been well taken care of. If you want to update your chips...

    OnXMaps

I use the app, I have the chip, but don't really use it a lot anymore. The main issues with the app seem to happen when they update the app or put out a new version. I've never had to delete and reinstall. The latest version of the app is really good in my opinion. Just cache/save your areas...

    Vortex Kaibab HD 20x56 ???

I held these at SHOT show. They didn't seem too much bigger than the 15x kaibabs. Personally I'd say carry these with a tripod instead of a spotter and bring your 8x or 10x along too. WYmoose

    Benefits of preference points?

I used to think preference/bonus point systems were good. The more I've applied and learned about them, the less I like them. I think no points system like Idaho, NM, resident Wyoming is the best. Here is why: I think with point systems more people apply because they need to "build" points...

    Rangefinder Longevity

Vortex. They are the only optics company that covers their electronics under their warranty. So if it breaks, you get a new one -- lifetime warranty. I was looking at others this year as well, and this is why I chose to go with the Vortex rangefinder. It's been a good one too, I've got ranges...

    Wyoming Antelope x 5

We had a good time in Wyoming this year chasing antelope with bows and then finishing up with rifles for those of us who suck at bowhunting :) I have a lot of pics, so I thought I'd just share the story as is on my blog. Here is the link: http://www.goo.gl/XiNEJH WYmoose

    Scoring mule deer

Yes, your inside spread credit can't exceed your longest main beam. So as stated if you measure a 30" inside spread, and the main beams are 25" and 26" you will have to use 26" for your inside spread measurement. WYmoose

I also have the etrex 20 -- it's nice. It uses SD cards, hooks up to the computer, and is small with good battery life. Price is good too. I had mine out last week antelope hunting and it was awesome to see the private land boundaries and topo relief as well as my waypoints and maps. WYmoose

    Strategy

If you're in the shape to do it run and gun. I'd say don't chase every bugle because you'll get tired, but you'll often need to get down into the canyons to hear them. The should be moving around enough to glass them up when they move through openings, even if there aren't that many. When you...

    Side arm

Just because the number is higher doesn't mean it's more powerful MickeyMouse. Check some ballistics and you'll find out that a .357 delivers more pop than a 45 colt (depending on the load of course). That being said I do have a judge and it is a fun gun to shoot. I would take into the woods as...

    Side arm

I think either are great for the lower 48. The 41 mag is a great caliber too. I just went with a .357 due to the versatility of being able to shoot 38's through it -- and Wyoming just made it legal to hunt big game with the .357 now.

The post on 180 whiteys vs 200 Muleys got me thinking. I had this discussion with a buddy on a shed hunting trip last weekend -- What's more difficult to kill - a record book bull elk (375) or a record book mule deer (190 typical 230 nontypical)?
