    Backpacking backpacks

I have the Bora 95 and the frickin' thing is huge. HOWEVER, I find the shoulder straps to be quite uncomfortable as they twist when you really cinch them and they cut into your chest. I think modifying the sternum strap will fix the problem. The advantage is that they cost waaaay less than the...

    Beautiful BC Pumpkin Head

I think I'll stick with my rifle for hunting deer, sheep etc. Bears just don't hold the excitement with a rifle any more. I have shot waaay too many of them. So I pick up my bow and kill one of my best bears ever. Go figure.

    Bears in the morning

I like to glass first light as well, especially if it has rained during the night. I find spots where the sun hits early and bears seem to congregate. It's not uncommon for us to find logging blocks with an eastern exposure where there will be several bears feeding before it gets too warm.

deer hunting around dome creek B.C.

I have never seen a lot of deer around there. But I only travel through on the highway and the timber is very thick. Loads of bears and moose, even some wolves.

    Gundahoo

Got a couple friends who guide for him. Awesome country, very little pressure and good populations. I personally have seen 60" moose in there. Usually there are quite a lot of Caribou but I never saw any real giants. Awesome Stone sheep area.

the type of hunt I could go for

LAST EDITED ON Apr-18-11 AT 12:02PM (MST)[p]sorry but you're SOL as they say. Unless you want to hunt small game you need an outfitter. AND you must be accompanied by a guide while you're hunting.

    Stone Sheep Outfitters

If you are sheling out big dollars for Stone Sheep then you should be thinking about trophy class. The east side of the rocky mtn. trench has the best overall quality of rams. Think about Gundahoo River Outfitters, Big Nine Outfitters or Stone Mountain Safaris. I've hunted the Bradford's area as...

    Africa Hollywood Videos

Ben, if you liked "Long Grass" you should read "Death in the Silent places". Also try anything by Wilbur Smith. He writes good African adventure novels. There's also books by Karamojo Bell, CH Stigand, Fredrick Selous and a host of others. Also, rent "In The Blood" you'll like that one.

    Fannin Vs. Stone

Why worry about whether someone recognizes your grand slam? Come up north and shoot your Fannin ram and be happy you got the opportunity, many won't. Fannin's are beautiful sheep that live in beautiful country. Grand Slam? Who cares?

    Turtle hunt?

I can't believe there are 180 posts on this subject and not one mention of anyone going for the grand slam of north american turtles. I know it's a rich man's game given the cost of a stone turtle hunt in BC but surely someone must be saving their nickels and dimes to complete this quest? I have...

    Hunting camp practical jokes

I made a nice looking cutout of a black bear one spring and let some guys try a stalk on it. Killed a rat and tied it to the steering wheel of a buddies truck so it looked like it was driving. Stole the bolt out of a guys rifle and then started shouting "moose..moose!" watched him try to jack...

    who's your hero??

I heard the same thing about "chapstick". Not very popular in the dark continent at all. Have to second the vote for Corbett.

    who's your hero??

CH Stigand, he was in the British military in Africa during the 1880's. Dangerous game hunter and Zulu fighter. Tough as nails.

Meindl AK HNTR or Lowa Sheephunter???

Meindl can be a good boot but their quality is inconsistent. One pair will be tough and durable, the next is junk.

    Stoned in BC

Even if you have a relative who will sponsor you the BC govt. doesn't issue permits to accompany on for sheep or grizzly. You can get one for goats, moose, caribou, etc. but not sheep. The outfitters have got that all to themselves.

    Cheating ?

Fannin's are Stone's. Ain't no cheating about it. If you're coming to BC to hunt them be aware that you're not probably going to see any real big ones. That country holds real thin horned thinhorns.
