    43 wow what happened?

I agree with you. I would hate to see the late archery hunt disappear because it offers hunting opportunity with low harvest. If they hadn't been hunted so consistently from August on, the herd wouldn't be in as bad of shape. I've seen a lot of rutting activity on that hunt over the years and...

    43 wow what happened?

I don't think the late archery hunt is the problem. Success rates of archery hunts are pretty low. I've always thought that it would help to close the season on the 24th like many surrounding units. It would make bucks less vulnerable to the rut and the migration. There also wouldn't be the...

Would you pay for GPS coordinates shed hunting

This has to be one of the most f*****up posts I've ever seen. What a petty way to handle a dispute. Not to mention you will be adding more competition to those spots.

    Something I've noticed

Just to clarify, I never suggested any new laws regarding hunting . I just said that in my opinion hey season that closed on the 24th like most other units would give deer a better chance

    Something I've noticed

The only thing that I suggested in the way of rule changes was a general rifle season that didn't coincide with the rut. I think you and I are probably on the same page in many ways. Although your opinion on short range weapons proved my point shot "a better hunter". Being subjective. Short...

    Something I've noticed

If self regulation worked there would be no need for seasons at all. I do self regulate and will continue to. Maybe you do do. Others don't and won't until it is too late. I'm not whining, I'm realistic.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-19-17 AT 08:34PM (MST)[p]No one said they want it to be easier. Everyone knows the availability isn't increasing, hence the suggestions for management solutions. You called everyone whiners and then listed many of the same reasons for population decline. while we should all...

    Something I've noticed

LAST EDITED ON Nov-12-17 AT 07:51PM (MST)[p]I don't love the idea of guys lobbing bullets a mile either, but I think no scopes would lead to wounded deer. Guys would still try to shoot to far for the open sights

    Something I've noticed

We asked a fish and game officer why they don't do away with the second tag option and he pretty much laughed at us and said general units can handle any tag capacity. Which made me wonder, what are the purpose of draw tags then? I love the Open opportunities that Idaho's hunting offers but...

    Something I've noticed

In unit 39 at least I think it would help to have the hunt dates pulled back a week starting October 5 and ending October 24. And having the 39 rifle elk hunts start on the 25th. That season would follow much of the state and would protect the deer from being devastated by an early migration...

    Something I've noticed

And with that many guys hunting that hard, with great optics and long range guns, in country without much cover, the deer don't stand a chance. Not to mention that many of these guys have two tags in there pocket.

    Something I've noticed

About 5 years ago someone asked for a good place to start hunting Idaho high country. Another hunter named a mountain he should try. I suggested that he shouldn't give away spots. I was ridiculed because he country was "too rough for most hunters" so there was no harm in naming the spot. Fast...

    30" idaho buck down....

Congrats! With the deer numbers down though, why not just trophy hunt with the first tag? That 3x4 would probably have been a 180 buck in two years. I used to to the same thing but those smaller racks sitting in my garage kinda always make me wonder what could have been. To each his own...

how about these dates for general deer

The Fish and Game has proposed leaving all southern Idaho seasons open to october 31st to normalize the general season. This will lead to MAJOR slaughters in the event of early snow. The reason that many general units can still support a late draw is that they close on the 24th before the...

Id wanting to extend deer season

I didn't have time to read the whole thread, but here is an idea. If you are really just concerned with hunter opportunity, why not have all of the seasons open on October 5th and close the 24th. Then there wont be a risk of a migration slaughter like the one that occurs in 39 every time we...

D13er, What do you mean did I learn anything? I haven't heard any word on the pack. I'm hoping whoever ended up with my gear will realize how much work it took to get it all, and that pictures can't be replaced. It took almost ten years accumulate this gear. It was everything I hunt with...

    Wife's first muzzy buck

here is my wife's 09 muzzle loader buck. On the first day of our hunt she said we wouldn't get one yet because there wasn't enough of a story...well 9 days of hard hunting, camper malfunctions, blown stalks, and a few hilarious mishaps, and the hunt ended with her making a great 150 yard shot...

    Wanna see a wide buck?

That's an awesome buck! My wife actually had the same buck at just out of range with no daylight left to stock. We thought he was only 28 to 30, but that tank body and huge ears fooled us. Congrats on harvesting him, and don't feel bad, she ended up with a 179 in. 4 point, her biggest buck to...

Idaho Deer Herds in Big Trouble

Who needs to get in a name calling match. It seems like if you were such a great huner, you could get it done with a shorter season. I know I can. I harvest good animals regularly, but I can still recognize a problem. Think about the future, not just yourself

Idaho Deer Herds in Big Trouble

gemstatejake, with all do respect, guys like you, in commen with the F&G, are the problem. You're not willing to comprimise at all. If we have it your way, yes we'll be able to hunt as much as we want for a few more years, then they'll have to shut it down completely, but you don't mind as...

Idaho Deer Herds in Big Trouble

bad winter or not, the numbers have been declining for years. And because there was a bad winter, the F&G should adjust accordingly. To follow a hard winter kill by giving more tags and lengthening seasons is just stupid and greedy. There are ways for everyone to hunt without killing the...

Idaho Deer Herds in Big Trouble

no one wants draw only hunting. That's why we have to take smaller steps now. For instance, in many units, deer start migrating before the end of October because they have a long travel ahead of them. They also start getting a little dumber as the rut nears. If seasons closed on the 24th, a...

    Save Idaho Wildlife

There is a serious shortage of animals. It was evident on the winter range, and still is now. I don't care where you go, the deer numbers are down. I know we haven't had the weather to push the deer out and it's pre-rut, but in previous years, I could always find plenty of young 2 and 3 year...

Idaho Deer Herds in Big Trouble

Yeah, I've talked to several officers and they all say the herds are in great shape. I call bulls**t. I think the Idaho fish and game is one of the greediest orginizations around. I think most hunts should close on the 24th. The migration leaves deer too vulnerable to lazy hunters. I also...

    MODENA GHOST

I don't think that is the same buck either. The live bucks main beams look to be about 20" apart at the tips, while the dead bucks only look to be about 15" apart. The live buck has a wedge point on his right g2 and the dead buck doesn't. Very similar, but not the same buck.
