    Bergara Rifles

I've had one in 6.5 creedmoor for a couple of years now. Extremely accurate rifle, action is very smooth and positive. They had some issues on earlier production runs that bergara is aware of and seems to be correcting. Mine has a large firing pin would blow small rifle primers. It had a...

    Jornada Depredation Oryx Hunt

That's awesome, congrats, my 13 year old daughter took a nice bull there a couple weeks ago, Dave is a first rate guy for sure, really enjoyed the hunt. Congratulations again, we're truly blessed that our daughters want to hunt with us!

    Youth Hunting

My youngest child (daughter) just started hunting with me and harvested her first antelope this past week. She is the third youth hunter in our household. New Mexico provides some excellent opportunities for youth hunters to be in the woods and be successful. New Mexico Game and Fish does not...

    Rhodes Canyon

Hi all, I'm invited for a ride along on a youth oryx hunt at rhodes, where is the most convenient place to stay for gate access? Is there camping near by like at the stallion gate or is it best to hotel it? Thanks and good luck this year

    Won the lottery--what caliber?

Of the guns you have I would say 25-06. I used a 308 for my rocky in 2011 and it was plenty. WHEN I draw my desert tag I will probably be packing a 240 weatherby, although a 257 wby in a mark v ultra light would be tough to beat...

    240 WBY Mag Shooters ?

Mine's a weatherby mark v ultra light, I think it's the cat's butt for deer, sheep and goats. I'm loading 100 grain partitions at just over 3400 fps, spooky flat out to 450 or so. Even used it on a middlin size barbary ram this year, worked great though I would probably use a bigger round for...

Thanks for sharing! He looks like a totally different animal with winter coat. Here's the other side. Sorry about the hijack ltsheets, wasn't expecting to see my boy:)

    Bighorn and Barbary Success!!

He added a few more dings since '08, the egg shaped chunk on the growth ring is pretty distinctive, bases are also distinctively small (13.5") which gives the impression of huge mass throughout but limits scoring potential. BandC is 173 and change after deductions.

    Bighorn and Barbary Success!!

Thanks NMHunter, I took that ram in 2011, thought I recognized that chip at the dark growth ring, game and fish in santa fe aged him at 15 yrs in 2011, lemme know if you have any more live pics, super cool to see a blast from the past, thanks for posting!

    Good taxidermists in NM?

Hard to say on the price, there are a lot of variables depending on what you want. Start looking at some mounts to get some ideas, call those guys up and tell them what you're thinking about. Remember that taxidermy is NOT a good area to go cheap, find a reputable artist who's work you like...

    Good taxidermists in NM?

Paul at Imperial Taxidermy in Santa Fe did my sheep in 2011, did a killer job on it. Great guys to work with, done some other mounts for me and my family as well, always first rate work. There are some great taxis in NM, seen some great work from other shops but if it's special enough to me to...

    340 vs 338

I suppose the main reason for the 338's popularity is that it's available in more rifles, the 340 is basically a weatherby deal. I bought a rem 700 in 338 a few years back thinking I would rechamber it to a 330 Dakota or something more "more powerful" than the 338, but the rifle shot so well I...

    MagnetoSpeed V3

got one. So far I like it better than the old chrony I was using. I do most of my load work up at the city range and it's way less hassle than setting up a unit with tripod and sky screens during a cease fire. A little awkward to use first time out, getting used to the spacer system and such...

    Archery Javelina Questions

Archery javas are a hoot, hands down my favorite way to chase em. In response to your original post, I don't think javas can even see a four wire fence let alone know what it might mean to their safety. I've killed some on private , but have seen just as many and had better luck on public...

Hunted the valle muzzie hunt this past weekend. Epic hunt, no pics yet as my sister in law was the only one on the mountain with us that had a camera and she hasn't sent any on yet. If you know anybody heading up for rifle hunt this weekend let them know that game and fish came through tues...

    Muzzy problems... wont group

Had similar trouble this year with my omega. Turned out there was a legitimate scope problem, but rifle did not group as well with new scope either. Checked both of the action screws and found that they were no longer snug by about two turns, tightened everything up and I'm back in business...

Great lookin bull man! Getting pumped for my muzzy hunt up there, glad the bull pics are finally tricklin in. I may go down just to watch guys knife fight each other over dead nannies, should be quite a spectacle, not too often that the state sponsors a live fire reenactment of hamburger hill, hope the good people of Deming have current homeowners insurance. Ibex Muzzleloader hunt tags?

The game commission plan for the ibex is pretty close to what they put in the proclamation. The plan was, and don't quote me on this, to take 20 tags from the muzzleloader hunt and use them for the special draw on the female quota hunt next year, that's what I got from reading the agenda stuff...

Help with new Rem 700 300 Win mag

I had a leupold retrofitted to the cds system, works great. Some of the info they need pertains to average elevation and ambient temps. If you plan on hunting with it this time of year I see no reason not to collect your data right now. They say plus or minus 2000 ft, I had them set mine for...

    Commision Meeting.. Terk Talks..

couldn't make the meeting today though I wanted to, maybe someone can give us an update. Hopefully they were able to put the crack pipe down long enough to discuss some business. Driving On BLM Acreage that You Lease

The rule with BLM leases seems to be pretend you own it. In my experience this includes driving WAY off of maintained roads to tell hunters they are "tresspassing" on your lease. Smart assery aside, best bet would be to contact BLM and find out what is allowed in your area, vehicle regulations...

2012 NM Resident/NonResident Sheep Draw Totals

I may be ignorant, but I wonder whether the game and fish could, provided that they were actually interested in whether or not NM residents ever get to hunt desert sheep, get around the quota restrictions by designating certain sheep areas or hunt codes in certain areas as resident application...

2012 NM Resident/NonResident Sheep Draw Totals

This resident cares about hunting sheep, but really only since I drew last year. I suspect hntbambi is right in that a lot of residents don't apply or apply on whim if they have exra money at application time. NM has never been a good option for sheep enthusiasts looking for a desert tag until...

    Which one to buy?

I like the omega also, seems to be a very solid rifle. Was contemplating getting a pro hunter, had to borrow a friends omega at almost the last minute due to technical difficulties with the cheap POS (CVA) I had been using. After spending some range time and hunting with the omega I decided I...
