If you were planning ahead for a Wyoming elk hunt, rifle, in the Cody area - would you be looking at preparing with wool clothes/jacket or go the Sitka/Kuiu route? Thanks in advance!
I hunted near Cody during September one year and we had any weather you could ask for. Rain and fog one day, about 3 inches of wet snow one day, cool and clear one morning (15 degrees) and near 80 another day.
I suggest you consider some pants with Gortex or Cabelas Dry Plus membrane and a Cabelas MTO50 packable rain jacket. Much less expensive than the fancy stuff and you will stay just as dry. Throw in some military quality long johns, Gortex gloves and your good to go.
Wool absorbs moisture and water.....nothing like sitting on the ground after a rain or snow glassing and getting a wet ash....

I was fortunate to hunt Wyoming last year during the late season in November. It was mighty cold and WINDY!!! I am a firm believer in Sitka Traverse pants and the zip shirt. A high quality base layer will do wonders for keeping you warm. Add other quality layers, either synthetic or wool, and you'll be ok. Best of luck on your elk hunt!
