Here is an e-mail that I sent/received from the DWR a couple years ago. If it came right down to it I'd probably dig a little deeper and make absolutely sure that this is the case but like I said, here is the actual e-mail statement that was sent to me from teh DWR. I kept it just in case I ever need it.
Question:"If I'm enrolled in the dedicated hunter program and draw a limited entry buck deer tag does that count as one of our 2 tags for the 3 year program?"
Answer:"IF YOU GET A LIMITED ENTRY OR CWMU PERMIT THROUGH THE BIG GAME DRAWING, IT COUNTS AS A "NON PROGRAM" HARVEST AND DOES NOT GO TOWARD YOUR 2 DEER IN 3 YEARS. SO YOU COULD ACTUALLY GET 3 DEER IN 3 YEARS, IF TWO WERE PROGRAM HARVESTS AND ONE WAS A NON-PROGRAM HARVEST."
Question:"If I were to take 2 deer in the first 2 years of my dedicated hunter program would I still be eligible to apply for the buck deer sportsman's tag? How about purchasing a landowner tag while in the same situation?"
Answer:"YOU ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR OR OBTAIN GENERAL SEASON TAGS, INCLUDING LANDOWNER GENERAL SEASON TAGS. YOU CAN HOWEVER, OBTAIN PREMIUM TAGS, INCLUDING LIMITED ENTRY, CWMU, AND LANDOWNER ASSOCIATION TAGS THROUGH THE BIG GAME DRAWING."
Pretty interresting huh...
