Folks, for those of you old fellers who might remember back in the day, the idfg used to issue metal tags that you put on harvested game. Like Alaska does now. I just came into possession of a metal tag that I would kind of like to know some history. Will try to post pic, but this is a crappy iPad I am using, and not sure I can do it. Edit, just tried and can't figure it out.
Anyway, here is the dope. The tag reads:
Ida. Game dept '37 sheep 325
It was found in the 70's at buckskin billy's cabin on the salmon river, after he had died. I did a little search of billy, and I guess he was quite the rascal and a sort of local legend. Could not find out if he ever drew a sheep tag, or if this is even a carcass tag, or maybe an ear tag. It does not appear to be used, but I am unsure how to tell, since I was about 10 years old when the idfg stopped with the metal tags.
Anyway,, thought it would be interesting to find out a little history. Thanks for any input,
Goldberg
