Looking for any members or readers with advice or info on mule deer hunts on the Kaibab Paiute Tribal Reservation in northern Arizona south of Kanab, Utah.
I've got my name on the waiting list with the Tribal Game and Fish Dept. Those that have hunted the previous year are given first choice. If a person does not pay for the tag or can't hunt then Game and Fish Manager Danny Bullets begins to call those on the waiting list. There are three 5 day hunts scheduled late Nov to early Dec with 5 - 6 hunters per time frame. They will not disclose where one stands on the waiting list. They will not disclose when they will begin to call those on the waiting list. They only state a hunter may be called if an opening occurs. If one does not answer the phone they go to the next name on the list. An odd way to do things if one asks me. Would that be an indication of the mindset of the tribal guides which are required to be employed as well? I live on the east coast. In my case prior scheduling in advance would be required. The deer migrate through this 100,000 acre plus reservation from the Paunsagunt - hence my interest. I hear they harvest some quality mule deer on this reservation. But the details just to secure a tag are perplexing. Am I pursuing a hopeless tag that is more suited to those that live in northern Arizona or southern Utah? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.
