This buck was taken by my friend Dave on his Ranch in New Mexico. He was actually elk hunting when he shot this deer. He saw the deer a few days into the elk hunt one morning and almost got a shot at him. I think it was later that day he was walking back to his vehicle about 4 miles away when it all happened. He decided to put on his sneaky feet and slowing walk the road back to his truck. They had seen several bulls in the past bed just off the road. One of the perks of hunting private land. NO ATV's or other vehicles to blow it for you! He'd been walking for a while and saw the leg of a deer through a little hole in the brush. When knocking his arrow the deer heard the noise and took a couple of steps. He saw that it was a shooter buck and had a small window through the vegatation to shoot through. He landed a perfect shot at 50 yards to take the buck of a life time. He had no idea how big this buck was until he walked up to it. It green scored 190 and change.
I know that some of you will comment about how far back he is in the photo to make an all ready big buck look even bigger. Your right...we (hunters) do it all the time. I had several photos to choose from so blame me if you have to. It's still an awesome buck.
Congratulations Dave!!!
Take a look at the "One In A Million" post under General hunting to see an awesome trail cam photo of an arrow exiting Daves' elk on the same ranch.
