Killed my very first elk in 113 almost 25 years ago. Feels like an eternity. Had a cow tag at the time and a college buddy an I hunted our arses off for days. Saw one elk and I killed it. Perseverance and blind luck is what that took. Good thing back then we were too stupid to quit…still thought...

Unit 22 during elk season, pack of 7 tracks located around Calamity Meadows and one gigantic single track going over the top towards Cow creek/Rush Creek. Had fresh snow, so pretty obvious. Go get’em, ain’t hardly any elk left up there and they can’t be helping. Good luck!

Losses on Unit 8 appear significant as well. I’m seeing far less deer now than early summer. I’m in the Viola area. Know of at least a dozen dead on south side of Moscow Mt. Kamiak Butte just across border on Palouse lost a lot too, so I assume it’s quite wide spread in 8 and probably 8a too...

I see the only benefit is to give the people that actually applied for the tag a second crack at it. But remember how they used to do it... Wasn't it just a free for all first come first served sale of leftover tags? Complaints from that resulted in the second draw, then followed by open sale...
