    30 pp nonres. elk..where now?

If it were me, I'd look strongly at the Bosque Del Oso. 4th rifle.

    Wolf release map.

There is, and can be no compelling reason to introduce an apex predator into a pristine environment. Unless it's a foot in the door to do away with, or curtail hunting. Which goes hand in glove with gun control.

    Harvest Statistics

I did a black bear hunt on the fringes of the Dismal Swamp in North Carolina in 1988. NC regs required a phone call to their number to record a successful hunt. You answered several of the questions by pushing a number on the phone, and NC DNR gave you a serial number recording your kill which...

    Colorado's Latest Global Warming Initiative?

At least it's better than the soon to be Assault Weapon ban-Caught with one of the many bad things listed first offense is 250K fine. Second offense, say a pistol grip and a muzzle brake on the same rifle, well that's a cool 500K.

    Dove/Quail/Pheasant/Duck/Geese

I hadn't thought about the Chamber of Commerce. I'm going to look at that. I've found while there are some jewels of public land, they are few and far between. But, to be honest I probably need to look at the walk in's. Seem's most of the birds are in the NE part of the state, and that's a bit...

    Dove/Quail/Pheasant/Duck/Geese

I would have thought the farther east would be mostly rural and closer to Kansas the more "birdy". Hence some rancher opening up his fields for a couple of days. But to be honest, I'm sure CPW would make it painful with the regs, and likely liability insurance.

Anyone know of day hunts/day leases/on the U.S. 50 corridor from Pueblo east to Kansas?

    Bosque Del Oso 2023

Wasn't a fan of the oil rigs. But the wildlife of all kinds didn't seem to mind at all.

    Bosque Del Oso 2023

The other bull that was taken while I was there was probably a 280 5x5. Guy in his late 70's early 80's was handicapped and was allowed to drive on the roads, along with a spotter/retriever. He took about a 400-yard shot off the hood of his pickup truck with a 30-378 Weatherby and just crushed...

    Bosque Del Oso 2023

It would be kind of hard to do. It's surrounded by big ranches. There are elk on private and they go through the Bosque to hit other ranches. It's not an easy hunt. If you get one you'll of earned it.

    Bosque Del Oso 2023

I am too old to ever hunt it again. But it is the prettiest piece of unspoiled public land I have ever hunted. CPW is determined to keep it that way with almost zero hunting/fishing footprint.

    Bosque Del Oso 2023

I saw bear scat on the roads. Only one bear hunter was there during my hunt using one of those tags that kept rolling over to another season. He was unsuccessful during my time there. He had hunted bear exclusively for two weeks. I did not see any bear when I was there or hear that anyone else...

    Bosque Del Oso 2023

I hunted Mule deer down there in '22 during second rifle. There were two bulls, one of which was probably a 320, and a cow taken then. Out of 15 hunters. Beautiful piece of land. But unless you have horses or handicapped it's all boot leather past the gate. With the exception of one youth...

    BH 209 - $80

I just picked up a gently used Cooper MZ. After being away from BP for 14 years, pricing yesterday at Sheels was painful. Three bottles of BH209, four packs of Bor locks, a brass brush and some patches put me at 300 dollars. So I go home and figure out that each 8-ounce bottle, using 100 grains...

    Leftover Reissue list is up.

I whole heartily agree. No resident should ever have to go OTC.

I’m just not feeling it !!!

I am absolutely convinced residents are drawn last if there is a choice between the two for the tag.

I’m just not feeling it !!!

Lack of quality tags, and the chance to get one isn't making me happy. I'm now at 6 points as a resident, in which I have been putting in for what was a 4-point unit. Sadly, I don't think that particular GMU is worth 6 points. As I've participated in the last 12 draws for that GMU I'm going to...

    Secondary draw: you in?

I am just as outraged as everyone else. How about 100% first choice draw for Colorado residents over the age of 50? You know, the ones that pay the high taxes, put up with the fires and the unconstitutional laws coming out of Denver. Like many of you I put in the last two years for the youth...

    Colo res vs nonres quotas

It started going downhill when Parks merged with Wildlife. It completely went off the cliff with the introduction of wolves. If a couple of packs of wolves released in Yellowstone had the capability of destroying the population of elk, deer, and moose of three different states, how long do we...

    Bosque Del Oso

Last week I get a email from CPW informing me that someone had turned in their Mule deer tag and it was mine if I wanted it, as I was next on the list. So, I of course went ahead and bought it. I've done a bit of searching on the internet and while there are mentions of elk, bear, and turkey...

    Colorado Hunting opportunities

I think CWD has a lot to do with the doe hunts. I also feel that Colorado should follow NM and now WY in NR allocations of hunts. We pay the taxes, put up with the fires, and I can't seem to draw a tag where I have property in either county. A resident should never have to go OTC, unless of...

Anybody willing to talk privately about a few Colorado units I'm interested in?

I've hunted 82 and 861 and it's pretty rough country above the timberline. Both are considered wilderness areas and it's boot leather or horses to get one out. Generally in both of those GMU's the elk go to the valley bottoms which are private on the first shot of rifle. I would hunt either sex...

    Moose in unit 41

I pulled the late cow tag last year for that GMU. Went with an outfitter and hunted 42. It was bone dry. No water anywhere. Reservoirs were enough to make you cry. Any beaver in the sloughs were either dead or moved on. Saw one moose in a five day hunt, at a top of a mountain that I couldn't get...

I didn't see a decent tag in any of it. I'm thinking the returned tags are going to be epic.

Refunds if they close the season?

Colorado's big game seasons are a cash cow. It could be a replay of the Walking Dead and we'd still have a season. However, Mama allowing Dad to go on a out of state elk hunt when you are currently unemployed and can't find toliet paper is something I don't see happening.

Chance to Comment on Tag Reissue Process

My suggestion was that the tags returned went to Colorado residents only for the first 24 hours. As we were the people who pay the taxes, live with the wildfires and crowds.

    Gun Legislation

The liberal front range runs the state. Best we can hope for is a SCOTUS decision. Even then the dems will ignore it. The goal is either to completely disarm the nation or make you a felon.

    Colorado wolves are here!

That's how the feds played it in Yellowstone. Elk herd there went from 24K to 2K rapidly. Then the wolves spread to Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. Ranchers paid the price too.

    Colorado wolves are here!

They introduce wolves here, that's going to be the end of elk hunting. Especially as they will be federally protected as endangered.

    Hayden Pass Fire

LAST EDITED ON Jul-25-16 AT 09:33AM (MST)[p]I was able to see a USFS computer rendering of the fire. Appears it burned down slope all on the east side. At the time of my initial post I was concerned the fire would crown the mountains and run down the west side too. I'm hoping monsoon season...

    Hayden Pass Fire

This fire is burning in GMU 86. My first rifle tag is right over the mountain in GMU 82. I fully expect the fire to crown the mountain and cross over into 82, as the Forest Service isn't fighting it at altitude. My question is will the elk run from 86 into 82? Will they keep running from the...

    Where's The Colorado Bulls?

Been a slow season. I think it was due to the wet spring, keeping the elk high. I pulled a raghorn 5&5 out of 441 second day of third rifle. I was happy with it, until I walked through the door of the taxidermist to have the rack put on a plaque. Yes, I suffer from antler envy.....
