    Best expandable

I drew an AZ Unit 27 Archery tag last year and studied, reviewed and shot 8 different broadheads: 4 mechs and 4 fixed. My mech of choice was the Vortex 100gr Solid. The design was simpler than the others, more consistent opening with a hUgE cutting radius. Almost too big if youre not pushing...

    Sportsvue Cameras

I recently wanted to get into the POV videography in some of my extreme sports, and researched the GoPro and the Sportsvue brands. Based on a side-by-side comparison of low light footage quality(my extreme sport of choice is hunting of course), I went with the Sportsvue 360HD. I have had...

    Hawks, Owls and Eagles

I thought I would ask some of you more experienced raptor watchers for some help identifying a very small raptor I observed in Eastern AZ. It could not have been bigger than 8" across the wingspan, kinda grayish. What are some of the smaller raptors and do any of those kinda match this very...

How to determine SECOND choice odds in Colorado?

To clarify, if my hunt code indicates a Choice #1 Success of 95%, that means that all of the tags were gone before the 1st choices were gone through, and there is 0% chance to draw on a 2nd Choice?

If a tree falls on an elk in the forest . . . ?

I received these pics back a while ago and am still floored by the find!! What are the odds? Does anyone know the story on this bull? Also, how can I get a tree to fall on a bull like that in my neck of the woods?

    colorado muledeer

I agree that there are few units in CO that don't produce 180" bucks, but like Founder said, you can hunt low, high, or REaLLy high! In their Winter '12 edition, Western Hunter magazine did a good article on Boone & Crockett entries over the last 10 years, and had 6 CO counties that fell in the...

    Are the deer moving

I had a buddy hunt the 2nd season and he was seeing bucks above 11,000'. The snow that was on the ground had tons of tracks in it above 12,000', as well as lion tracks!! If the lions are that high, that's a pretty good sign where the good hunting is!!

    Colorado 4th rifle unit 74

Here are 2 bucks I took pictures of the last few days of the 3rd season last year. We got hit with a good snowstorm right at the beginning of the hunt (Nov 3rd ish), but those deer were still pretty high. I'm sure they were on their way down, but a week after the snow hit, they were still at...

    Bucks, Bulls or Bust!!!!!

It's been a while, but lots of good things going on!! I hunted hard for 12 days on my Unit 27 AZ Archery Bull hunt, and after many highs and many lows, I was able to connect with a nice 6x6 we named Moby, because he had a whale of a tail! His longest points were his fifths at 18" and 16.5"...

    Motivation for Winter Deer Migration

Gentlemen, We gathered a group of desert dwellers from AZ to go to SW Colorado for an epic mule deer hunt. We called the local DOW office for local conditions, and got some good information: highs around 70, dry, no snow, weather you would expect to see in Phoenix, not the CO Rockies!! Then, the...

    Timberline bucks?

If you are referring to my trip, they were bedded up high, in the timberline bushy stuff, some were high bedded against rocky bluffs. Some found a few trees and bedded in the shade of the trees, but by no means avoiding the open areas morning, day or evening. It's my experience that they stay...

Took a whirlwind trip to CO this last weekend to check cameras, set up tree stands, and scout. It was a blast to have my brother-in-law break away with me and introduce him to all the beauty Colorado has to offer!! We had 3 out of 4 cameras produce really well, with a lot of 160" class bucks...

    Spread of a 350 bull

The answer you are more or less looking for is 40". Probably the more reliable measurement is the ear width, +/- 21". That will help you gauge width as well.

    Timberline bucks?

I was just up in Co Unit ##, and glassed up probably 20 bucks Sunday morning, all above 11,500'. Some smaller 150" bucks, but some that would approach 170". I wasn't seeing the 180"+ bucks we usually see, but there is a lot of country up there! Keep looking high and you'll find them!!

    Back to Brisket

I have heard a standard ear width will be 21". Both my deer on the wall are right at 21", one just above and the other just below. I'd love to see a deer with 26" ear width, shoot him thinking he's 24" wide, and he ends up 30"!!!

Does anyone have personal experience on how Luminocs effect the consistency of arrow flight? The extra weight at the back of the arrow is never desirable, but I am filming my hunt and thought it would help identify shot placement before the stalk. Any thoughts?

    Elk and Fire?
