    War on the opener

I have read my Great Grandfathers Journal, and he talks about deer hunting not being as good as it used to be, and it was written in the 60's! THESE ARE THE GOOD OLE DAYS! Get the youngens out and hunting, we always wish for better. I am so glad I got started back in the 80's with huge groups...

    Looking for Howa Feedback

Great Rifles! I have ahd one in 22-250 for over 5 years and I love it! The triggers are adjustable, they don't advertise that, but I took mine down to 2 1/4 pounds, no creep no problem. The thing I like is the action, never had a smoothere handling bolt action, and the Hogue Stocks are great...

Lost Bull in FillmoreOak Creek South

I lost a Bull in the LE area of Fillmore Oak Creek South on the last day of the Muzzy Oct 7. It had a non typical left side with a beam dropping down over his shoulder. The right side was a weak 3. If anyone sees or hears about it I would like to know, Thanks! Before the smart remarks start...

    Question about Found Downed Animals

I wounded an animal the last morning of a hunt, searched until dark and contacted the DWR which is a pain since they are closed on Fridays. Finally a Field Agent called me and explained that I could not carry a weapon to dispatch a dieing animal. And if I discovered the carcass, since my hunt...

    two way radios

Those of you that hunt in the way backs (dark timber), what kind of range do you get out of two ways if you use them (50%, 25%, 10% of published range). Looking at Cabelas and Cobra has new models of two way radios with ranges up to 25 miles. I would guess that they might be good for 5 miles...

    best of list for backcountry

JL, How strong are the cabelas game bags? Are you able to hang a quarter (elk front leg or back) in them without tearing? I thought about using old laundry bags, but if these are tough enough, I will use them. FOB

Cabelas alaskan frame 2 and pack

Thanks again for your comments. I can always count on good advise on this forum. Has everyone been happy with the performance of the pack/frame. I heard some complain about the velcro connections, but I was pulling an tugging on them, and it seems like the pack is secured nicely to the...

Cabelas alaskan frame 2 and pack

I haven't really decided yet. I have a 1700 ci daypack that I use whitetail hunting that I thought about straping to the frame. However, it took alot to get the cabelas pack on the frame. There are two loops that slide over the top that are tight. I used pliers to pull and twist them on...

Cabelas alaskan frame 2 and pack

Couple questions. Just purchased this combo after Christmas at a great buy. Currently on sale at 99.99 and then I had a $20 coupon. Anyway, they sell the pack separately, but I don't see where there are straps to carry just the pack if it was ordered by itself. Am I missing something? Is...

    GPS, how the ____?

Thanks for the additional comments. We will be hunting some rough terrain in Idaho, so if the Peer to Peer only works within radio contact then it might not be the best option. thanks!! FOB

    GPS, how the ____?

Thanks for the info guys. So it sounds like if I went with a Legend, vista, etc. it wouldn't be enough of a difference to justify the added weight or hassle of carrying two pieces. Thanks again!!! FOB

    GPS, how the ____?

Couple of questions. Been looking at the GPS with two radio options (Rhino 120's). My question is, for a pair of these in a package will run ~600.00. We are hooked on the feature of knowing where each other is. Now for my share of the cost (300.00), I could buy a much better GPS (~250.00)...

Alright guys I am a newbie. Planning an elk hunt in sept. '07 for the lolo zone in Idaho. I am aware of the wolf issues, but was wondering if anyone could give me a good starting spot or any other information about the area. I already have a couple of forest maps (Clearwater national forest...
