    New to muzzle loaders

Go Made in America (Tennessee). See link: Knight Rifles I would stay away from Traditions. Had forend break (they replaced), scope rail holes drilled off center on receiver (modified rail), camo finish degraded and got sticky (they could do nothing, except use different paint on later...

    Recommend Mule Deer hunting book?

New to mule deer hunting and am wanting a book to get me started. I've been told their behavior is nothing like the whitetails here in the South. I take 3-4 of them a year. Interested in food, habits, hunt techniques, etc. NRA Life Member VFW Life Member

    "Didn't get my tag" thread

You guys are almost making me feel better about my usual Unsuccessful email (11pts for NR MZ in West Desert-Vernon). I told my wife we are moving back so I can use these points before I die.

When do the CC hits happen ?

I've heard that some states actually make you pay up front when you apply. Depending on how many tags you are trying to draw, this could expensive VERY fast.

When do the CC hits happen ?

    >I actually was waiting for April >Fools answers. I remember last >year. Utah sure does take >a long time for draws. >I guess they make money >on interest. They would make interest if they charged your credit card at the time of application and then refunded your money if you were not...

    SW Desert Muzzy Tag (deer)

So no real increase in LE areas (other than North Slope Summit and multi/late season). NR hunters are still stuck in a rut.

    tag numbers?

    >All I really care about as >a non-resident is whether there >is one tag or two >for some hard to draw >hunts. Makes it tough to keep applying for those units that have only 1 NR tag. You can have 20 points but if there is only one tag available, you are no better off than someone with 0...

NR and Resident Points averaged - How?

A NR and a Utah Resident put in for a hunt together (LE Deer). They have different points. I know that when two or more people put in for a hunt together, their points are averaged. But, does UDWR apply that averaged number to the NR or Resident hunt? (Usually, Residents require fewer points...

Bonus Point Permit vs Regular Permint (NR)

Thanks bluejay. Since I moved out of UT, my points have been building up pretty quick. Of course EVERYONE not in UT has points building fast, so no real advantage. Now, if I can just get back there, I'll be set!!

Bonus Point Permit vs Regular Permint (NR)

Looking at the Non-Resident Limited Entry charts on Big Game Draw Odds; What is the difference between Bonus Point Permits and Regular Permits? It appears that when Utah divides the number of permits available for a particular unit, the top half of draws are called "bonus" while the remainder...

    2014 Harvest Data?

This is where an automated harvest reporting system comes in handy. In TN I can go on-line and select a time period, species and county to get harvest data. From years ago, to what was reported just yesterday.

I'll be waiting. I'm in the "iffy" zone to draw MZ Book Cliffs with 10 points.

Prepping Does For Fawn Survival Study

Thanks for all the great info Lumpy. Our whitetail in TN have a whole different set of issues regarding fawn survival. A study in 2012 by TN Wildlife Resources Agency disclosed that coyotes take 70% of newborn fawns. Needless to say, coyote hunting is serious business around here.

Applying for LE and Buying Points?

    >Zeke but I don't agree with >you on this, your son >in laws can do what >I plan on doing with >grad school. Move out of >Utah apply as a non >resident and build some points. >Move back to Utah and >have extra points. That is >the only way the NR >can benefit, if they plan >on moving...

    Gunsmith Recommendations ????

Bryner Gun Shop 749 W 24th St Ogden, UT 84401 (801) 392-6855 I've used him for barrel work and finishing, never wood, on hunting rifles. Franz is a cranky, older German (or maybe Austrian), but his work is excellent. If you are doing anything out of the ordinary, he may fuss at you, but don't...

Applying for LE and Buying Points?

    >As a resident, I wish I >could buy bonus points for >each species every year! But, if YOU could do that, so would EVERYONE else. Your odds would not be any better than they are right now. That is the exact situation NRs face.

Applying for LE and Buying Points?

I used to live in Utah until a few years ago when I job transferred me to TN. I had been allocating my annual OIL point towards buffalo. When I moved, I went into the non-resident category and the average points to draw a buffalo roughly doubled. Add in the fewer NR buffalo tags, and my odds...

10 Points - What area for MZ?

I am looking for recommendations of a hunt area in UT for muzzle loader. After moving out of UT in 2009, I still kept putting in as a Non-Resident for Buck Deer bonus points. This year I will hit 10. My hunting buddy back in UT is thinking of having us put in for South Slope Diamond Mountain...
