^What critter said, or just do archery. No shame in not picking up a drawn tag to do what you are passionate about.

How to keep bears from my tree cam?

Yes they can smell your scent. I clean my cameras and security boxes with Clorox or rubbing alcohol prior to taking into the field. I use security boxes, 3 inch lag bolts into my trail cam tree. The long lag bolts=significant effort to tear off tree. I pull sd card and check cameras with latex...

    Bear baiting question

I love these posts, some good advise and I like hearing all your input. Curious if any of you have a suggestion(s) for the below situation... My favorite bait site is well established. Typically have 20+ different bears visit first week, increasing through the season. I'm not bummed about...

    Elk Controlled Hunts

Agree with Customweld's first reply. Crowds have gotten bad with all the overlapping hunts and xtra cow tags. Last time i drew, and last a buddy's tag which i tagged along... felt worse than general season competition racing down ridges opening am.

    Antelope unit 90-2

Sounds like my exact experience in that unit last year. Spent 2 days & 300 miles on gravel scouting before the sept 10th opener and was extremely disappointed. Didnt even stay for the opener, turned around and went home to archery elk hunt. I'll send you a pm

    300 RUM issue

Utarchery, I had problems with that exact load. Same gun, same bullet, same powder. Try the 210 gr burger slowed down or 200 gr accubond. Ive read and heard many testimonials of accuracy with either. My gun agrees with great results as well.

Weiser Fire Complex and Brownlee A tags.

I took in my brownlee tag to the fish and game office in boise off park ave today at lunch. No questions asked they took my tag and gave me a gift card for the price of an elk tag and un-issued the brownlee tag. Gal also mentioned "by friday" to turn it in. Hopefully no issues for your friends...

    Idaho falls

There are better places in Idaho to live imo, but Idaho Falls isn't too shabby. I was born in IF and lived there until 18, lots of family there so visit yearly. Proximity to great hunting, fishing, & outdoor recreation opportunities is great. If I ever moved to Idaho Falls my first purchase...

    Hawkeye or X-bolt?

I have both a Hawkeye and x-bolt in similar caliber. Something about it, I like the x-bolt better. Trigger is solid in both rifles

    Berger Bullets VLD

Lots of good talk out there on the Bergers. I too just started loading them in the last year. So far, I'm not 100% sold, but still working out loads to achieve good accuracy. Was impressed with effectiveness on a bear this last spring.

    When to Tumble

I have thought tumble first to clean the brass before resizing? Then tumble again after sizing. Extra step, but perhaps keep your die set cleaner.

    Ruger Hawkeye

What do you guys think about this gun? Quality/accuracy/etc for a mountain hunting rifle compared to other manufacturers. I'm really interested in field experience those of you may have with the scope base/rings that are included with the rifle. Ruger does there own thing with the base/rings...

    300 Ultra without a break?

Shooting a 300rum without a break is the least concern imo. Sure anyone can be tuff and take it. More concern is subconsciously developing a flinch before you pull the trigger. Given the later, I would break it and not chance a bad habit.

    7mm WSM ?

quest, sage has a lot of good info. I purchased a 7mm WSM after seeing the performance of a buddies 270WSM and then went for the slightly enhanced bullet weight/ballistics of 7mm. Just have to say absolutely love this gun. I cannot cycle Berger bullets thru the magazine and have the Berger...

    Unit 39 Bear

+1 BPKHunter There are a lot of Bears in 39 for sure, last two years I've seen more bears than muley bucks easily. They seem to hunker down once deer season opens.

    270 load question

What kind of groups you getting? Hoping for? Are you 100% sure it's not the scope or loose bases? For the three rifles I have loaded for this year, all like the bullet seated near the lands. So as recommended by others, play with that seating depth.
