Greetings - I posted previously regarding "Kaibab Archery" back in mid-July - I responded to a lot of requests for info; hopefully I didn't miss anyone, if I did, sorry. I was on the North Kaibab for 5 days during Labor Day week - had a great time, saw a few bucks just driving around and was astounded by the wet conditions that resulted from the summer monsoons - wettest I've seen it in the last 40+ years. Talked to a few hunters and the hunt seemed to be tough 'cuz of the wet conditions.

BTW - If anyone would like some help (extra eyes & hands) during the late hunt this year, I'm available - my hunts are wrapped up here in UT. I have some experience with the Kaibab (see my previous "Kaibab Archery" posts). As I've previously said, I'm not a guide or outfitter, just someone who has some hunting experience on the North Kaibab who would like to share what I've learned over the years (and I'd rather be camping on the Kaibab than sitting home). I'm retired, self-contained and willing to help point you in the right direction in terms of trying to find a good buck.

If you're interested, please snd send me a PM. Thanks & good luck to all of you who were lucky enough a Kaibab tag.

Great offer to anyone with the tag. I hope to be there chasing large mule deer with a tag in my pocket next year.

Bill

My girlfriend and I have west side tags for the early hunt, headed up Thursday if you want to camp this weekend, be around until Monday afternoon.

Just arrived in Vegas. Driving over to make camp this afternoon. Waited an awful lot of NR years for this tag. Looking forward to it.

Hey Allen, I'll try to touch base if there's cell coverage. I borrowed a pickup in Vegas for the hunt. It's an old white Ford F-150 with Nevada plates. Bed has a cap also.

Chad, We'll look around for your camp. AZ plates, right? What kind of vehicle?

Ya wind was brutal today. Tent blew down, truck battery died so we came into town to stay at hotel tonight. Looks like the top may get 12" before it's done? We'll give it a go tomorrow. Hopefully will have some visibility down low.

I posted in the mule deer forum, but can post here too.

It was real windy the first couple days, which made things difficult, although we did find one shooter opening morning. Saw some decent bucks, but when I glassed this guy up on Wednesday, he was a no doubter in my book.

A huge thanks to Rockymnthunter for his help on this hunt. He sure knows the Kaibab.

Chad:
Congrats, the Kaibab is a great place, you had a great hunt & and took a great buck - I'm thrilled for you, and it was a pleasure to spend some time with you (& your family), and share a few things & show you a few places on the Kaibab - and thanks for your kind words - hopefully I'll draw an archery tag in '14.

That's a stud of a deer. I wouldn't have passed on him either. How wide is he?

Congrats to you and major Kudos to Rockymnthunter!

LAST EDITED ON Dec-02-13 AT 08:55AM (MST)[p]Congrats Chad,

I stopped by your camp one day, but you guys were out hunting. We hunted around 3 outfitters at the base of Slide, but only ended up passing 160-170" type bucks. Then last day tagged out on meat bucks. Very convenient, jumped mine hiking back to camp to pack up! 800 yards from camp, 15 yard drag to forest road. Dragged whole and loaded in 30 seconds.

I saw RMH's truck parked by the wilderness one day.

Looked like all of the outfitter clients we saw failed to score. Same thing, passed on 170's waiting for 180"+ with no opportunities.

My hunt was much as I was warned. Lots of smaller bucks. Had a chance at a 180" tall 4x4 on the 3rd day but fumbled shooting sticks during the 2 minutes he gave me. He was locked on me. After that passed on a 170" on the 7th day, and a 160" 4x3 on the 8th day. No mature deer seen the last two.

Spectacular scenery in that area.

Ken

Chad, great buck.. Congrats. Hey Zim, was the Ford you were driving an older ford with Nev license plates? I believe you were behind me friday mid day on the Jump up road around 1:30. I was in a black chevy 2500. We saw 1 great buck friday evening and a couple decent bucks. Deer really were moving alot. Thanks, Allen Taylor......

Yes that was me.

Hey my hunting partner bumped into Dwayne Adams there one day in Slide. He had 3 guides with him and his client who missed his shot as my buddy watched. Same guys would cow call at me from across the canyon early AM while on my way to glassing point.
